POST OF OVERSEER OF ROADS,
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT,
ST. VINCENT.
Applications are invited for appoint-
ment to the post of Overseer of Roads
attached to the Public Works Depart-
ment of Saint Vincent.
The salary of the post will be at $480
per annum, rising by annual increments
of $48 to $720 per annum, with a travel-
ling allowance of $480 per annum.
A cost of living allowance at the rate
of $109.20 per annum is also being paid.
Any application must be in the appli-
cant's own handwriting, accompanied
by any credentials and testimonials he
may hlive and should be addressed to

iine) in the British Guiana Transport
and Harbo :rs Dej artment. The posts

are permanent and pensionable and the
salary of each is in the scale 750 x
30-900 per annum.
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer
(Locomotive) is required to assist the
Chief Mechanical Engineer and take
charge of locomotives, Carriage and
Wagon maintenance and operation.
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer
(Marine) is required to assist the Chief
Mechanical Engineer and take charge
of the maintenance of Marine craft
hulls, boilers and engines.
Candidates for either post.should be
under 40 years of age, corporate mem-
bers of the Institution of Mechanical
Engineers or (in the case of the Assistant
Mechanical Engineer, (Locomotive) hold
exempting qualifications with experi-
ence of Steam, Diesel-electric and Pet-
rol Locomotives, and carriage and
wagon maintenance, or (in the case of
the Assisiant Mechanical Engineer (Ma-
rine) hold other technical qualifications
covering the field of a Marine Engineer.
The holders of each of these offices
should be capable of acting for the
Chief Mechanical Engineer.
In each case, free passages to British
Guiana will be provided for the officer,
his wife and children under 18 years
not exceeding five persons in all. On
leave after completion of a minimum
tour free passages return (not exceeding
a total of 200) will be provided for the
officer only subject to the provision of
funds annually by the Legislative Coun-
cil. Five days leave for each completed
month of resident service, np to a maxi-
mum of six months' leave, may be
granted after a minimum tour of two
years. Free quarters are not provided.
Intending candidates should make
application (or write for any further
particulars desired) to the General
Manager, Transport and Harbours De-
partment, British Guiana, giving brief
details of age, qualifications and expe-
rience as soon as possible.

Board of Control will not be considered.

Parties tendering will be required to
forward samples of all articles included
in their tender which are not of a per-
ishable nature, other than kerosene oil,

The Government does not bind itself
to accept the lowest or any tender, and
reserves, the power of accepting any part-
of a tender.
Nothing in any contract which may
be entered into will be considered as
affecting the right of the Government
to obtain at any time any articles it
may require through the Crown Agents
in England, notwithstanding such sup-
ply is contracted for locally.
The attention of parties tendering is
particularly directed to the "specifica-
tions" and "conditions of contract" in.

will be binding on them.

Conditions of Contract.
1. The contract to be from 1st Janu-
ary to the 31st December, 1951.
2. The Contractor undertakes to de-
liver at his own expense into the Stores
of Institutions the articles placed oppo-
site his name at the prices stated, on
such days, at such times, and in such
quantities as may be stated on the re-
quisitions of the Head of the Depart-
ment or Officer in charge.
Firewood for the Colonial Hospital,
Fort Institutions and the Mental Hos-
pital to ibe delivered stacked at the Hos-
pital, Fort Charlotte and the Mental
Hospital at Cailiaqua respectively.
3. Every article supplied must be of
a sound, good quality, and according
to the samples or specifications which
accompanied the Tender, and no arti-
cle is to be substituted for the one re-
quisitioned for (e.g. meat for fish) with-
out the consent of the requisitioning
officer first obtained.
4. Any articles considered by the
Head of the Department or Officer in
charge to be of inferior quality may be
rejected by him, and shall be immedi-
ately removed and replaced by the Con-
tractor at his own expense, without any
allowance being made to him for such
articles.
5. If the rejected articles are not re-
moved within 9 hours from the time
notice shall have been given to the
Contractor, they will be returned to, and
at the expense of the Contractor; pro-
vided that if the Contractor gives such
explanation as may be satisfactory to
the Governor, the expense of such re-
turn shall not be charged.
6. Should the Contractor neglect or
refuse to replace rejected articles or to
supply any of the articles contracted
for at the times stated in the requisi-
tions, the Head of the Department or
Officer in charge, shall be at liberty to
purchase the said articles from other
persons; and the difference between the
price paid for such articles and the con-
tract price shall be deducted from the
next payment made to the Contractor.
't. The Head of the Department or
Officer in charge may, if he should deem
it necessary, purchase articles of per-
ishable food such as bread, meat. &c., at
once to replace rejected articles.
8. All fresh meat contracted for must.
be slaughtered in the Slaughter-house
in Kingstown.
9. If the Contractor should persist
in such irregularities as are stated in
paragraph 6, the Administrator shall
have power to terminate the contract
immediately or at such time as may
appear to him proper oi convenient.
10. The contract may be determined
at any time by one month's notice be-
ing given either by the Contractor to the
Administrator or by the Administrator.

ST. VINCENT/GRENADINES MAIL AND
PASSENGER SERVICE.
Tenders will be received at Govern-
ment Office for-
(a) the conveyance, bi-weekly, on Mon-
days and Thursdays (southbound)
leaving Kingstown at 8 o'clock in
the forenoon, and on Tuesdays
and Fridays (northbound) of
mails, parcels, passengers and
cargo by motor-vessel between St.
Vincent and the St. Vincent Gren-
adines (extending to Union Is-
land) only, with a projected trip to
Carriacou once in every fortnight;
and
(b) a call at Bequia and return with the
Magistrate and other Government
Officials on the first Wednesday in
every month.
2. The contract will be for a period
of one year from the 1st January to the
31st December, 1951. The several trips
must be done in daylight with a reason-
able stay at each Island of the Grena-
dines.
3. Tenders, which should be sealed,
must state the amount of the subsidy re-
quired; be addressed to the Government
Secretary, Government Office, and be
distinctly marked "Tenders for Convey-
ance of Mails, Passengers and Cargo-
(St. Vincent-Grenadines) ".
4. Tenders will close at 3 p.m. on
Thursday, the 16th November, 1950.

FISHING NETS AND SEINES.
It is hereby notified for general in-
formation that, under the provisions of
the Fishery Nets (Amendment) Ordi-
nance, 1915, all Fishing Nets through-
out the Colony will be examined for
the purpose of discovering whether they
conform to the measurements prescribed
by the said Ordinance.
In the case of those which do not
conform to the correct measurements,
a period of 12 months will be allowed
for their replacement by nets of the
prescribed size.

(Amendment No. 34) Notice.
