A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS it is provided by sec-
tion 6 of the Public Holidays Act,
1954 (No. 19 of 1954) that it shall be
lawful for the Governor from time to
time with the advice of the Executive
Council of a Presidency to issue a
Proclamation appointing a special day
or part of a day to be reserved asa
public holiday in such Presidency:

AND WHEREAS by section 9 of
the said Act it is provided that for the
purposes of sections 6 and 8 of the
said Act the expression ‘‘ Governor”
shall mean the Officer for the time
being administering the Government
of a Presidency.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, HENRY
ANTHONY CAMILLO HoWaRD, the
Officer for the time being administer-
ing the Government of the Presi-
dency of the Virgin Islands, with
the advice of the Executive Council
of the said Presidency do hereby
appoint Friday the 2lst day of
October, 1955, as a special day to
be reserved as a Public Holiday in
the said Presidency, under and in
accordance with the said Act, and I
do by this my Proclamation command
the said day to be so reserved and
kept.

AND all Her Majesty’s loving
subjects in the said Presidency and
all others whom it may concern are
hereby required to take due notice
hereof and to govern themselves
accordingly.

GIVEN under my hand at the
Commissioner’s Office, at Tortola
in the Virgin Islands this 20th
day of September, 1955 and in
the fourth year of Her Majesty’s
reign.

“NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that it appears to the Governor in
Council that the lands described in
the Schedule hereto and situate at

Marine Marker—Burt Point.

The Burt Point Light is situated at
latitude 18° 24’ 57” North, longitude
64° 36’ 40.6 West or approximately
200 yards due east of Burt Point at
the entrance to Road Harbour,
Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The
light gives a white single flash at the
rate of 20 flashes per minute, with an
effective range in clear weather con-
ditions of about 5 miles. ‘Che light
will be put in operation on Monday,
the 26th September, 1955.

ASSISTANT TRADE COMMISSIONER
(STUDENTS) FOR THE BRITISH
WEST INDIES, BRITISH GUIANA

at an annual salary in the scale
$3,600 x 150—$4,800 Can. plus a
house allowance of $1,200 Can. per
annum. Passages on assumption and

Assistant Trade Commissioner and
family up to five in all from the

3. Candidates should be Univer-
sity graduates conversant with experi-
ence of life and the educational
system in the U.S.A. and should
preferably have attended a U.S.A.
University.

4, The duties of the post include
advising students generally, in secur-
ing places for them in approved
universities, and in evaluating of
U.S.A. degrees in relation to their
equivalent in the United Kingdom
for purposes of recruitment to service
in the British Caribbean territories.
The Liaison Officer will keep Govern-
ments informed of educational devel-
opments in North America and keep
students in touch with employment
opportunities in the West Indies.

5. The Officer will be responsible
to British Caribbean Governments for
the execution of his duties but in the
matter of local discipline and admin-
istration, responsible to the U.K.
Colonial Attaché in Washington. He
will also be required to assist the
Colonial Attaché as occasion demands
in the execution of certain of hig
routine duties relating to ths West
Indies.

death occurred on the 26th
day of May, 1955 at the
Cunningham Hospital in the

After further investigations, two errors were found in the individual depositors’ accounts for
1953, which resulted in amounts of $450 and $9.60 being written off with due authority of the
Secretary of State and the Commissioner respectively. ‘Taking these errors into account, the total of
the balance of individual depositors accounts would have fallen short of the balance of the depositots
Control account by $295.47 at 31st December, 1953.

2. At &8lst December, 1954 the total of the balances of individual depositors accounts fell
short of the balance of depositors Control account by $313.62.

WHEREAS Section 15 of the Customs Duties Ordinance,
1927, provides that the Legislative Council may from time
‘to time by resolution increase, reduce, abolish or otherwise

alter the Customs Duty leviable on any goods imported into
the Presidency ; a:

Customs Duties Ordinance, 1927, shall be and is hereby
utered and amended as follows: —

(1) By the addition after item 31 of the following

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS it is provided by sec-
tion 6 of the Public Holidays Act,
1954 (No. 19 of 1954) that it shall be
lawful for the Governor from time to
time with the advice of the Executive
Council of a Presidency to issue a
Proclamation appointing a special day
or part of a day to be reserved asa
public holiday in such Presidency:

AND WHEREAS by section 9 of
the said Act it is provided that for the
purposes of sections 6 and 8 of the
said Act the expression ‘‘ Governor”
shall mean the Officer for the time
being administering the Government
of a Presidency.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, HENRY
ANTHONY CAMILLO HoWaRD, the
Officer for the time being administer-
ing the Government of the Presi-
dency of the Virgin Islands, with
the advice of the Executive Council
of the said Presidency do hereby
appoint Friday the 2lst day of
October, 1955, as a special day to
be reserved as a Public Holiday in
the said Presidency, under and in
accordance with the said Act, and I
do by this my Proclamation command
the said day to be so reserved and
kept.

AND all Her Majesty’s loving
subjects in the said Presidency and
all others whom it may concern are
hereby required to take due notice
hereof and to govern themselves
accordingly.

GIVEN under my hand at the
Commissioner’s Office, at Tortola
in the Virgin Islands this 20th
day of September, 1955 and in
the fourth year of Her Majesty’s
reign.

Marine Marker—Burt Point.

The Burt Point Light is situated at
latitude 18° 24’ 57” North, longitude
64° 36’ 40.6 West or approximately
200 yards due east of Burt Point at
the entrance to Road Harbour,
Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The
light gives a white single flash at the
rate of 20 flashes per minute, with an
effective range in clear weather con-
ditions of about 5 miles. ‘Che light
will be put in operation on Monday,
the 26th September, 1955.

ASSISTANT TRADE COMMISSIONER
(STUDENTS) FOR THE BRITISH

sity graduates conversant with experi-
ence of life and the educational
system in the U.S.A. and should

4, The duties of the post include
advising students generally, in secur-
ing places for them in approved
universities, and in evaluating of
U.S.A. degrees in relation to their
equivalent in the United Kingdom
for purposes of recruitment to service
in the British Caribbean territories.
The Liaison Officer will keep Govern-
ments informed of educational devel-
opments in North America and keep
students in touch with employment
opportunities in the West Indies.

5. The Officer will be responsible
to British Caribbean Governments for
the execution of his duties but in the
matter of local discipline and admin-
istration, responsible to the U.K.
Colonial Attaché in Washington. He
will also be required to assist the
Colonial Attaché as occasion demands
in the execution of certain of hig
routine duties relating to ths West
Indies.

a workman lately employed
at Fountain Estate which
death occurred on the 26th
day of May, 1955 at the
Cunningham Hospital in the
town of Basseterre, in the
island of Saint Christopher.

COMPENSATION in the above
matter having been deposited with
me under Section 8 of the Work-

dants of the said ANDERSON
BROWNE, deceased, are hereby

After further investigations, two errors were found in the individual depositors’ accounts for
1953, which resulted in amounts of $450 and $9.60 being written off with due authority of the
Secretary of State and the Commissioner respectively. ‘Taking these errors into account, the total of
the balance of individual depositors accounts would have fallen short of the balance of the depositots
Control account by $295.47 at 31st December, 1953.

2. At &8lst December, 1954 the total of the balances of individual depositors accounts fell
short of the balance of depositors Control account by $313.62.

RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATIVE CoUNCIL OF ANTIGUA -
DATED JuLy 18, 1955, MADE UNDER Section 15 of THE
Customs Duties OrpinaNcE, 1927, (No. 11 or. 1927).





WHEREAS Section 15 of the Customs Duties Ordinance,
1927, provides that the Legislative Council may from time
‘to time by resolution increase, reduce, abolish or otherwise

alter the Customs Duty leviable on any goods imported into
the Presidency ; a:

BE 1T RESOLVED that the Second Schedule to the
Customs Duties Ordinance, 1927, shall be and is hereby
utered and amended as follows: —

(1) By the addition after item 31 of the following
ifem— .
“31 A. Rods, reals, hooks, coir rope, cotton
seine twine, gillnet twine, hemp fishing lines,
galvanized mesh wire—No. 16 British Standard |
' gauge, and marine engines imported specifically for
"use in the fishing industry. ”

(2) By the rescission of the resolution dated 3rd
November 1949 (S. R. & O. 1949 No. 20).
