A PROCLAMATION.
K. W. BLACKBURNE,
Governor.
WHEREAS under section 3 of the
Cotton Planting (Regulation) Ordi-
nance, 1926 (No. 7 of 1926) it is
provided that the Governor in
Council may from time to time by
Proclamation published in the Gazette
and by Public Notice declare any
period of each year to be a close
planting season within the meaning
cf the said Ordinance either for the
whole Presidency or for such area or
areas thereof as may be specified in
such Proclamation, and that any
Proclamation so issued and published
may be revoked, amended or varied
by a Proclamation similarly issued
and published:
AND WHEREAS by Proclamation
dated the 11th day of March, 1955,
and published in the Gazette on the
94th of March, 1955, and by Public
Notice the Governor in Council
declared the period from the Ist day
of April, 1955, to the L5th day of
August 1956, both days inclusive, to
be aclose planting season within the
meaning of the said Ordinance
throughout the Presidency of Mont-
gerrat and every part thereof except
in the Planting Date Experimental
Plot at the Grove Botanic Station:
AND WHEREAS it is expedient
to vary the period aforesaid:
NOW, THEREFORE, I KENNETH,
WILLIAM BULACKBURNE, a Knight
Commander of the Most Distinguish-
ed Order of Saint Michael and Saint
George. an Officer of the Most Excel-
lent Order of the British Empire,
Governor and Commander in Chief in
and over the Colony of the Leeward
Islandg:and Vice Admiral cf the
game, by and with the advice of the
Executive Council of Montserrat, do
by this my Proclamation declare that
the period from the 16th day of
April, 1955, to the 15th day of
August, 1956, both days inclusive,
shall be a close planting season with-
in the meaning of the said Ordinance
for the whole of the Presidency of
Montserrat (except the Planting Date
Experimental Plot at the Grove
Botanic Station, to which this Procla-
mation ghall not apply).
AND I further declare that the
Proclamation dated the 11th day of
March, 1955, made under section 3 of
the Cotton Planting (Regulation)
Ordinance, 1926 (No. 7 of 1926) and
published in the Gazette on the 24th
day of March, 1955, is hereby revoked.
AND all Her Majesty’s loving sub-
jects in the said Presidency and all
others whom it may concern are
hereby required to take due notice
hereof and to give their ready
obedience accordingly.
GIVEN at the Government House,
Montserrat, this 29th day of
March, 1955, and in the fourth
year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Acts, 1871 to 1950, as amended, it is
provided that whenever there is
occasion for the election of a repre-
sentative member to the General
Legislative ‘Council from among the
members of an Island Council the
Governor shall by Proclamation
require the elected and nominated
members of the said Island Council
within such time as may be specified
by such Proclamation to elect such
member within the time so specified:
AND WHEREAS by the said sub-
section it is provided that the elected
and nominated members of the said
Island Council shall, in such manner
ag may be provided by the Standing
Rules and Orders of such Council,
but subject to the provisions of the
gaid Act, elect such member within
the time so specified:
AND WHEREAS there is now
occasion for the election of two
representative members from among
the members of the Island Council of
Montserrat for the composition of the
General Legislative Council:
NOW, THEREFORE, I do by this
my Proclamation require the elected
and nominated members of the
Island Council of Montserrat, on or
before the 30th day of April, 1955, to
elect, from among the elected mem-
bers of the said Council, in such
manner as may be provided by the
Standing Rules and Orders thereof
but subject to the provisions of the
said Leeward Islands Acts, two
representative members of the said
General Legislative Council.
AND the elected and nominated
members of the Legislative Council
of the Presidency of Montserrat and
all otherg whom it may concern are
hereby required to take due notice
hereof and to govern themselves
accordingly.
GIVEN under my hand at the Gov-
ernment House, Antigua, this
. 6th day of April, 1955, and in

School, St. Vincent, B.W.I.
The school isa Government Insti-
tution. It has at present a roll of
260 boys and takes pupils to the
Cambridge Certificate and Higher
School Certificate Standard.
Applicants should possess a degree
of a University within the British
Commonwealth, and should have had
teaching experience in a Secondary
School. Applicants should furnish
detailed accounts of their qualifica-
tions and experience together with
suitable testimonials, when submit-
ting their applications.
The salary of the post is in the
scale $3,840 x 120—4,560 (£800 x 25
—950) per annum. The point of
entry to the scale will depend on the
qualifications and experience of the
successful candidate, and he will be
on probation for one year. The
holder of the post has Civil Service
Status and the post is pensionable.
The appointment will be subject to
the passing of a satisfactory medical
examination.
Income Tax is payable in accord-
ance with local legislation.
Free passages on first appointment
will be provided for the officer, hig
wife and children. Vacation leave
and leave passages are provided in
accordance with local regulations.

Applications are invited from suit-
ably qualified candidates for appoint-
ment to a post of Senior Assistant
Mistress, Girls’ High School.
The school is a Government
Institution, the post is pensionable,
the appointment will be subject to
the passing of a satisfactory medical
examination, and will be on probation
for one year in the first instance.
Applicants should possess a degree
of a University within the British
Commonwealth, and must be able to
teach one of the subjects History,
Geography, French, Latin, to Higher
Schoo] Certificate standard, and one
to subsidiary level. They should
also have had teaching experience in
a Secondary School.
The salary of the post is in the
scale $2,016-96-2,688 (£420-20-£560)
per annum. Entry into the salary
scale will be determined according to
the qualifications and experience of
the candidate,
Free passage on first appointment
will be provided for the successful
candidate. Government officials are
liable to taxation imposed by local
enactments.
