A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the Maintenance
Orders (Facilities for Enforcement)
Act (Cap. 12) as amended, provision
has been made for the enforcement
in the Colony of Maintenance Orders
made by a Court in England or
Treland:
AND WHEREAS by section 12
of the said Act, as amended, it is
provided that where the Governor is
satisfied that reciprocal provisions
have been made by the Legislature of
any British possession or any territory
under Her Majesty’s protection for the
enforcement within such possession
or territory, of maintenance Orders
made by Courts in the Colony, the
Governor may by proclamation
extend the said Act to such posses-
sion or territory, and the said Act
shall thereupon apply in respect of
such possession or territory as
though the references to England or
Ireland were references to such
possession or territory and the
references to the Secretary of State
were references to the Governor of
such possession or territory:

AND WHEREAS the Governor is
satisfied that the Legislature of the
States of Jersey has made reciprocal
provision for the enforcement within
the said States of Maintenance Orders
made by CourtS within the Colony
of the Leeward Islands:
NOW, THEREFORE, the
Governor by virtue and in exercise
of the powers in him vested by the
the above recited Act, is pleased to
proclaim and doth hereby proclaim
that the Maintenance Orders (Facili-
ties for Enforcement) Act, as ameni-
ed, is hereby extended to the States
of Jersey.

IT IS HEREBY DECLARED that
the Governor in Council with the
approval of the Legislative Council
of the Presidency of Antigua consi-
ders that the land described in the
Schedule hereto being the property
of RAYMOND EBENEZER JARVIS de-
ceased but subject to a life interest in
favour of JOYCE FREDERICA JARVIS,
should be acquired for public pur-
poses, namely, for the erection of a
Market Shed and Abattoir in the
Town of Parham in the Island of
Antigua.
Schedule.
All that piece or parcel of land
situate in the Town of Parham in the
Island of Antigua containing 6,043
square feet and bounded as follows,
that is to say on the North and West
by the Public Road, on the East by
a wall and lands of GORDON and
RICHARDS on the South by a wall
and land of EDWARDS.

Declaration dated October 26,
1954, made under Section 8
of the Land Acquisition Act,
1944, (No. 11/1944) for the
acquisition of certain land in
the Presidency of Antigua
required for Public purposes.
It is Hereby Declared that the
Governor in Council with the ap-
proval of the Legislative Council of
the Presidency of Antigua considers
that the lands forming part of Five
Iglands Estate situate in the Parish of
Saint John in the Island of Antigua
and more particularly described in the
Schedule hereto, should be acquired
for public purposes, namely :—
(1) to obtain a site for the erection
of a school and provision of play-
ground;

(2) to obtain an area for exten-
sion of the existing village of Five
Islands;
(3) to provide agricultural plots
for the villagers of Five Islands;
and,
(4) to provide a grazing area for
the stock of the said villagers.
Schedule.
All that portion of land forming
part of the Five Islands Estate and
consisting of two parcels of land
containing in the whole 125 acres or
thereabouts situated on the Five Is-
lands peninsula in the Parish of St.
John in the Presidency of Antigua
being:—
(1) an area lying north of the
Five Islands road and west of the
village of Five Islands, and
(2) an area lying south of the
Five Islands road and west of the
said village.

APPOINTMENT OF HARBOUR MASTER
Applications are invited for the
post of Harbour Master. The scale
attached to the pest is $2880 per
annum rising by annual increments
of $120 to $8840 per annum. ‘The
officer appointed will receive such
salary within the approved scale as
his experience and qualifications
justify. He will be appointed either
on contract or probation, the decision
depending on his age and qualifica-
tions. An officer appointed on pro-
bation will be required to serve a
probationary period of two years
before he can be considered for per-
manent and pensionable status. A
contract of employment will be for a
period of three years. In either case
the officer selected will be subject to
the Colonial Regulations and General
Orders in force from time to time.
A medical certificate of fitness will
be required. Government does not
provide free quarters but quarters
may be provided, if available, at a
rental of 5% of their capital value or
10% of the officer’s total emoluments,
whichever is the less. The appoint-
ment does not carry a motor transport
allowance. A commuted overtime
fee at the rate of $240 per annum is
payable.
9. The Harbour Master will be in
control of all shipping operations in
St. George’s harbour, and will direct
the manner and times of berthing
and departure of vessels and the
allocation of berths. He will be
responsible for the orderly stowage,
safe custody and removal of cargo on
and from the wharves; for the exercise
of discipline over all Government
officers, including Customs officers,
while they are employed on the
wharves in St. George’s harbour; for
the inspection and surveying of all
intercolonial vessels and coastwise
traders. He will be the senior mem-
ber of the Board of Examiners for
the issue of certificates of competency
to masters and mates under the ship-
ping Ordinance: a Surveyor under the
Merchant Shipping Act, 1894; and the
Shipping Master and Registrar of
Shipping. He will ensure the proper
care and maintenance of all harbour
buoys, marks, beacons, lighthouses,
peirs, jetties, wharves, launches,
boats, ete., in Grenada and Carriacou.
Applications from candidates with a
knowledge of Customs methods and
procedure will be given special con-
sideration.

The Regional Economic Committee
invites application from suitably
qualified persons for the vacant post
of Administrative Assistant at an
annual salary in the scale of $3,360-
240-$3,840 per annum. Passages on
assumption and termination of ap-
pointment for the Administrative
Assistant and family up to five in all
from and to the place of engagement
will be paid by the Committee. The
post does not at present carry pension
or superannuation rights.

post of Assistant Superintendent of
Public Works, Grenaii.
2. The post, which is pensionable,
carries a salary scale of $2,880-120-
$4,080 per annum. The actual point
of entry in the scale will be deter-
mined in the light of experience and
individual qualifications.

medical certificate of fitness which is
required to be furnished beforehand,
will be for a probationary period of
one year in the first instance, and
may be terminated during that period

in writing.

8. Qualifications.—The officer
ig expected to possess the standard
qualification of a Civil Engineer, or
its equivalent, and have at least three
years working experience on such
Public Works. A working know-
ledge of Land and Engineering
surveys is essential. He will be
required to assist the Superintendent
of Public Works generally and to
deputise for him when required to
do so.
9. The officer will be required to
carry out all types of Public Works
and such other duties as may from
time to time be required by the
Superintendent of Public Works.
10. He will be subject to Her
Majesty’s Colonial Regulations and to
the General Orders of the Colony.
