The 1971 weather data for the Agricultural Research Center, Ona,
Florida is summarized in this report. Daily temperatures and rainfall
for each month is listed on-pages -2 through 13. .-The weather box con-
taining the standard thermometers and hygrothermograph is four feet above
ground level. Weather observations were at 9.30 A.M. unless noted, and
covered the previous 24 hour period. The ground thermometer was unprotected
and rested on the soil- surface. The ground-level minimums are the lowest
temperatures for the period following the previous reading.

Rainfall is compared with the 1942-1970 averages on page 14.
Frequency range of daily maximum and minimum temperatures by months is
shown on page 15. A summary of the temperature averages and extremes,
and rainfall extremes are given on pages 16 and 17. Relative humidity
hour values for 1971 -are given on page 18, and temperature hour values
for 1971 are on page 19.

Rainfall

1971 total rainfall at the Agricultural Research Center at Ona
was 39.29 inches. This was 16.09 inches below the 29 year average
(1942-1970) of 55.38 inches. The months that showed the greatest percentage
of deviation from the average are as follows: Deficits-January 78,.2,;
March 69.4 April 96.5/; July 57.6,; and August 49 .0 Excesses-
February, 34.0,; October, 36.6,,; and December, 28.9%. There were 124
days of measurable rain (0.01 inches or more) for the year. The longest
period of drought was 15 days, ending November 29th.

Tetmerature

The highest temperature for the year was 94 degrees, which was
measured for July 27th and 20th; the lowest, 21 degrees, occurred.on
January 21st. Temperatures of 40 degrees or lower were recorded 27
times: 10 in January, 5 in February, 10 in March, and 2 in April.
