Alvin Alsobrook, a member of The Florida Bar Board of
Governors, spoke with UF Law students on the Bar's efforts in
support of the state's legal practitioners on Tuesday.
"Supreme" judges to critique moot court
competition
Florida Moot Court Team members
will showcase their oral advocacy
skills to a panel of uniquely
qualified judges UF Law alumni
who have served as chief justice of
the Florida Supreme Court. The
26th annual Maguire Appellate
Advocacy Competition, formerly
known as the Raymer F. Maguire
Moot Court Final Four Competition, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday,
March 5, in UF Law's new Martin H. Levin Advocacy Center. The
free event is open to the public. The law school community is
encouraged to attend.

Environmental conference focuses on
leadership and local impact
The idea of environmental
protection often conjures up
thoughts of faraway places, most
of which we've never seen.
Whether it's ice caps, rainforests,
or the middle of the ocean, we
don't think of the issue as being
close by or tangible. Even the
Everglades are hundreds of miles
away. But there is much to be done for the environment, and
much happening, in our own neighborhoods. This created the
focus of the 16th annual Public Interest Environmental
Conference, titled "Bringing It All Back Home: Leadership, Land
Use, and Locanomics."

Conference addresses flaws in juvenile justice
system
On Feb. 19 and 20, the Levin College of Law
hosted a Juvenile Justice Law conference
titled, "Juvenile Justice: Passages, Prevention
and Intervention," as a means of providing a
forum for the sharing of ideas and information
regarding how the juvenile justice law system
should be changed to provide for better
outcomes for juveniles. During the two days of
the conference, distinguished scholars from all
over the United States presented various
theories and supporting research as to why the present juvenile
justice system is inadequate and how it should be reformed.

rare glimpse into their own futures
as members of The Florida Bar
during the Feb. 23 visit of Jesse H.
Diner, president of The Florida
Bar. In what has become an
annual event of UF Law which
has hosted three Bar presidents in
as many years Diner, who was
accompanied by Alvin Alsobrook, a member of The Florida Bar
Board of Governors, spoke eloquently on the Bar's efforts in
support of the state's legal practitioners.

Spring 2010 exam information and
accommodations
Exam time is fast approaching and
the Office of Student Affairs is
beginning to organize for that
period. The final exam period runs
from April 26 through May 7. The
law school policy states that you
Y may move an exam if you have
two or more exams scheduled on
the same day (i.e. one exam
scheduled at 8:30 a.m. on April 27, and then another exam
scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 27) or for another accommodation.
The Office of Student Affairs is responsible for scheduling and
proctoring your accommodation. Please do not contact your
professors. You may not take an exam early. The Office of
Student Affairs has the ultimate discretion as to which exam(s)
are delayed.

Law student volunteers clean up midtown
Gainesville
By three a.m. on a Saturday
morning, most students have
usually left Midtown, either to
make their way back home or in
I search for more fun. But much of
their trash is left behind, whether
it's discarded armbands, paper
plates, or other various pieces of
refuse. This past weekend, UF Law
students partnered with Keep Alachua County Beautiful to try to
make a dent in the accumulated trash and to make Midtown a
little more beautiful.

"Business and Corporate Immigration" March 2
UF's Immigration Law Association is pleased to have Tammy Fox-
Isicoff come to talk about the practice of Business and Corporate
Immigration on Tuesday, March 2, at noon in the Bailey
Courtroom. Fox-Isicoff served a trial attorney for INS for a
number of years and has been in private practice since 1988. She
has served as a legal expert on immigration law for various news
sources and has appeared on "NBC Today" and "The CBS Morning
Show." She will be coming to talk about the field and practice of
business immigration.

hard to build, easy to destroy and difficult to restore. Of
significant importance to a lawyer's progress in the legal
profession is their ability to establish themselves as a
professional and competent in their field. Once established as
such, referrals and success in bringing cases in as a rainmaker,
become unstoppable. Join us on March 5, at 2 p.m. in HOL 180 to
hear a panel of local attorneys and a former judge share their
advice on the best way to build your reputation and gain the
skills to become an effective rainmaker while in law school and
beyond. They will also share their experience with those who
choose the wrong path, and the effects those choices had on
