Experiment 819-1. (November, 1956 March, 1957, 142 days.)

Purpose of experiment:

1. Study the relative efficiency of fattening steers on pasture and in
drylot.
2. Determine the value of aureomycin (Ab) and/or diethylstilbestrol (DES)
in rations for fattening beef steers.
3. Determine if the value of the two feed additives was the same in
drylot and on pasture.
4. Determine the effect of two levels of concentrate feed intake upon the
value of the two additives.

Diethylstilbestrol
Indiana.

Rations costs were calculated on the following basis: Ground snapped
corn, @ $50.00 @ ton; citrus pulp, $40.00 @ ton; 410 cottonseed meal,
$68.50 @ ton; Urea-262, $109.60 @ ton; and mineral mixture, $105.00
@ ton. A mixing charge of $8.00 was added to each ton of mixed feed.

Premix was composed of cottonseed meal plus feed additive. Aureomycin
was fed to supply 90 milligrams per animal daily. Diethylstilbestrol
was furnished at the rate of 10 milligrams per animal daily. Where
no feed additive was given the premix was plain cottonseed meal.
