Police: Teen hits boyfriend, others with car
v;" .: ..*.; ;< '.,'1;

A star Wildwood High
"School basketball player was
injured last week when his
'ex-girlfriend allegedly hit
him with her car as he
walked with a friend after
-school.
Demetrice McCray's ex-
,girlfriend Jashawn D. Fluitt,
16, allegedly ran him down
Tuesday, Feb. 19, after spot-
ting him talking to 19-year-
old Stephanie Andrews on
Palmer Street.
According to police, Fluitt
had been threatening to run
over McCray and "ruin his
career." McCray is the team's
leading scorer.
The crash happened about
3:30 the afternoon before
McCray's basketball team,
which recently claimed a dis-
trict title, was scheduled to
play Orlando Jones High
School inr the Class 3A-
Region 2 Semifinals.
Fluitt, who has a child with
McCray, reportedly hit
Andrews' car, McCray, and
his friend, Boris Turner, 18.
"The impact tossed both
pedestrians into the air and
into the windshield of the
juvenile's car," according to a
Wildwood Police
Department press release.
"Not knowing that a
Wildwood police officer,
Anthony Tucker was behind
her during the incident and
witnessed) the act, the juve-
nile continued down the road
and was pulled over on
Barwick Street. The 16-year-
old suspect was charged with
two counts of aggravated bat-
tery with a motor vehicle
(domestic violence), with
more charges pending as a
result from the crash,"
according to the report.
Fluitt was arrested and
released by a judge the next
day to her parents.
McCray and Tuner were
hospitalized following the
incident but were back in
school late last week. McCray,
who suffered a laceration to
his leg, was released from the
hospital that night and
Turner, who suffered a
bruised knee, was released
Feb. 21, Wildwood Police
Capt. Eddie Reeser said.
On the night of the game,
McCray left the hospital to
watch the game from a
wheelchair.

Get ready,
it's fair time
It's that time of year again.
Just around the corner is the
Sumter County Fair, which
runs from Friday, March 7
until Saturday, March 15.
.The nine-day event, a tradi-
Aaron Tippin
tion in this county for. many
years, will include special
events happening every day
and of course the usual fair
entertainment rides, games
and prizes, exhibits, and food.
The fairgrounds are located
outside Webster at 7620 State
Road 471.
This year, the fair starts
with Kids Day, when kids get
in free. Armbands are just $10
on Kids Day.
That first night is also an
opportunity to see what prom-
ises to be a great country
music show. The concert will
feature Aaron Tippin and
other popular acts.
The show starts at 6 p.m.
with Dan Story, followed by
Jim Van Fleet and The Reign
at 7 p.m. Tippin will play at
8:30. Tickets are $10 for
grandstand $10 and $15 for
track seating. For information
and tickets, call the fair at 793-
2750.
There are lots of events
going on throughout this
year's fair, from animal
shows, including livestock
shows, a dog show and draft
horse pull, to adrenaline-
filled events like the demoli-
tion derby and wrestling.
And don't think the fair is
just for kids and teens.
There's even Senior Day,
when visitors can take a
Sunday stroll through the
midway, watch an ability act
and listen to the Back Porch
Pickers.
On that day, seniors get in
free and there are special

Shoppers toop...
While lightning and, -at
times, heavy rains came tum-
bling down, fresh veggies,
bright flowers and handsome
trees were on display at the
weekly Sumter Grower's
Market.
Open on Saturdays, from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m., the market
draws vendors from within
100 miles to sell their goods. It
allows residents to buy local
products at what can be lower
prices.
Shoppers could select from
a bundle of flowers and herbs
- marigolds and basil, to orna-
mental kale and daisies.
There were live oak trees,
jasmine and azaleas, potatoes,
onions, peppers, honey, egg-
plant and green tomatoes.
There was also a food ven-
dor- with kettle corn, coffee
and other goodies, as well as a
little live music.
Coordinator Susan Kelly is
working to make the market
grow that was only the sec-
ond week, but already folks
are grabbing up the goods. A
steady stream of cars pulled
through the area, even in the
rain. In some cases, vendors
helped shoppers stay dry by
giving drive-through service -
selecting produce and deliver-
ing bags of goods trough car
windows.
Among the growers on site
were Brown and Brown of
Oxford, Bellamy Growers of
Inverness, Florida Contract
Growers and Baker's Nursery
The market is on the east
side of KFC and the north side
of Blueberry Hill, on State
Road 48.
For more information about
visiting the market to shop, or
vending your locally grown
ornamentals, trees, veggies,
citrus or fruits, contact Kelly
at 793-2728.
The market is also open to a
limited number of local ven-
dors with fine arts or craft
items.
sheriff's Lt. Bobby Caruthers
said about the game that
evening. "We did add a cou-
ple of resource officers to the
event," he said.
"But Wildwood won and ...
there were no incidents
whatsoever."
Fluitt will also likely be
charged with operating a
motor vehicle without a valid
operator's license because
she only had a learner's per-
mit, according to Reeser.

Lorenzo's, the Chevron gas
station/deli/outdoor weekend
bar in Lake Panasoflkee, has
taken a lot of heat lately from
opponents of the establish-
ment.
Lorenzo's opponents sent
an anonymous letter to the
county recently, making alle-
gations of inappropriate and
illegal activity going on there,
which prompted county offi-
cials to look further into the
business.
But owner Lorenzo Innabi
defended his business this
week, saying the allegations
just aren't true.
Innabi, who has had the
business for about six years,
said he works there seven
days a week, so having the bar
is a way of bringing entertain-
ment to him.
"I look forward to my week-
ends outside because it's my
weekend out."
At a February County
Commission meeting, County
Administrator Bradley Arnold
initiated a discussion with
commissioners about the let-
ter.
The writer said Lorenzo's is
a concern to most of the Lake
Panasoffkee community and
claims people there smoke at
the gas pumps, drugs are
being exchanged and used,
and fights happen frequently.
The writer also claimed that
firearms are being carried by
some of the patrons who are
consuming alcohol, and sexu-
al acts are happening on the
premises, which Innabi
denies.
At the County Commission
meeting, Commissioner Doug
Gilpin said he gets complaints
from residents weekly and has
visited the business, though
he did not witness activities
mentioned in the letter, just
noise.
Arnold said the sheriff's
office has recommended
changing the county's noise
ordinance to include penal-
ties for repeated violations.

Tuesday, Feb. 19
Chaz Hampton, 20, Oxford,
was arrested for fleeing
attempting to elude and driv-
ing while license suspended.
Bond was set at $5,500.
Jose Ventura, 23, Lady Lake,
was arrested for possession of
a concealed weapon, posses-
sion of a concealed weapon by
a convicted felon and no regis-
tration. No bond was set.
Shane Simpson, 20,
Wildwood, was arrested for
possession of marijuana with
intent to sell, possession of
marijuana and failure to
appear. Bond was set at
$46,000.
Ten of 23 complaints filed
with the sheriff's office relat-
ed to Lorenzo's in the last year
were about noise, Arnold said
then.
Innabi said he addresses
the loud music complaints as
he gets them but he's only
had one telephone call about
it and a few police visits.
Innabi also provides trans-
portation to patrons who've
had too much to drink The
weekend music stops around
10 or 10:30 p.m. and everyone
is usually gone by 11:30 p.m.,
he said.
Apart from the noise, he
denies the allegations, and he
said while he can't be sure
drugs have never been sold in
the parking lot, he is not
aware of any such incidents
and has never seen it happen.
"If I did (see drugs being
sold), believe me they would
be locked up right now."
Lately, Innabi said, police
have been patrolling too much
near Lorenzo's on the week-
ends and it's hurting his busi-
ness.
"I lost over $3,000 in busi-
ness because of police cars.
Last Friday and Saturday,
there were over 10 cars," he
said.
"I think the police depart-
ment has more important
issues to be worrying about
than worrying about us local
businesses here in town sell-
ing a few beers."
Innabi said he has met the
legal requirements to sell
beer and have gatherings out-
side on the weekends.
"I had to go through (county)
building and zoning (and
change from) C1 commercial
to C2 commercial to conduct
entertainment outside," he
said.
The alcohol being sold is
mostly bottled beer and
Lorenzo's does not sell liquor,
Innabi said.
"I do draft maybe once
every eight months ... I do have
a shooter girl," he said.
The shooters are wine-

CSX should have planned
better for railroad work
C SX railroad deserves some
nasty comments for their
apparent lack of considera-
tion last week, and the week
before, as they tackled some work
on the railroad tracks in Bushnell.
The tracks cut through the heart
of Bushnell, separating the east
side of the city from the west side.
The company gave very little
warning and very late information
that they would be closing several
major crossways in the city while
they were performing repair
work
For most motorists, finding
Central Avenue, Bushnell Plaza,
Noble Avenue and Belt Avenue
closed for repairs came complete-
ly unexpected.
Even the city of Bushnell didn't
know about the work until the day
before it happened.
The result was frustrated
motorists trying to figure out.
exactly where they could get
across the railroad tracks. It also
resulted in some annoying traffic
tie-ups.
We, too, only learned of the road
closures the day before it hap-
pened. Fortunately, the state
Department of Transportation
sent us a public notice.
But DOT only learned about the
closures a day before they hap-
pened as well.
It would have been nice for CSX
to inform the newspaper, local
government and local law
enforcement about the pending
work.
We could have let you know
about the upcoming mess and
local government could have been
prepared to deal with the situa-
tion.
Just to give you an example: It
actually took 22 minutes on
Thursday, Feb. 14, to get exactly
6/10ths of a mile from the Times
office on E. McCollum Avenue a
few blocks south on Florida
Avenue to the intersection of
Seminole Avenue and U.S. 301.
Traffic was tied up on Florida
Avenue from motorists heading in
both northern and southern direc-
tions as they attempted to turn
onto Seminole. A sheriff's deputy
was stationed at the intersection
to assist with the traffic conges-
tion.
A local telephone number for
CSX also provided no help.
Although a Times reporter called
the number several times for
information, the phone was never
answered.
While this work would
inevitably inconvenience- resi-
dents, motorists, and government
no matter how it was handled, the
whole thing could have been
made much easier to deal with if
CSX had acted with a little more
courtesy. Instead, it was made
more difficult when CSX abruptly
started work and gave little time
for adjustment. A little warning, a
little courtesy, could have gone a
long way

Your
A twist on a
Neighborhood Watch
Well, it looks like our little
flamingo friend has found a new
place to hang out away from all
the hustle and bustle of city life.
A couple of weeks ago I awoke to
the neighbor dog barking and
peeked out the window and didn't
see anything out of the ordinary
from where I was standing; of
course it was dark. Wild animals
wander around our houses and
dogs bark at them all the time so I
didn't think too much about it and
went back to sleep.
The next morning I was leaving
for work, as I pulled out of my
driveway, I wasn't surprised to see
the neighbor's dog barking at the
flock of sandhill cranes that had
been spending a lot of time in the
open field across from us in the
early mornings.. .But. .what is this?
A strange bird! At home in the
same field with the sand hill
cranes... then I remembered the
picture of the lone flamingo that I
saw in the paper, you know, the
one that spent a couple of weeks
on the court house lawn. I only
saw his picture in the paper so I
can't identify this one as the same
one, maybe it is his cousin.
He has been there all this time
and no one has paid any attention
to him. He has had no visitors that
I can tell. He is just waiting for
something exciting to happen I
guess. Out here in the country, the
most he has seen and heard are
the school buses passing each
morning and afternoon with chil-
dren on board. He probably wish-
es he could at least be closer to the
road so he could see the happy
faces, but no, the most excitement
he can look forward to is the fire
chief responding to an emergency
call with his lights flashing and
sirens screaming.
Sadly, the sandhill cranes don't
even stop here anymore. They
only stopped by for a few
days...only a rest stop on their long
migration south. They.said good-
bye to our pink friend and contin-
ued their trip.
I hope he enjoys the slower pace
here in the country. I think he
knows that we know he's there,
but he has not even glanced our
way as we go by. It doesn't matter
how long he stays, we have
enjoyed seeing him standing as
the sentinel in the field. Maybe
he's waiting for a new family to
move in the big house down the
road...He seems to be facing that
direction now that I think about it

Lorenzo responds
to complaint
County Administrators, County
Commissioners, Sumter County
Sheriff Department and Citizens
of Lake Panasoffkee, I have been
in business in Lake Panasoffkee
for the past six years, my family
workers and friends have done
nothing to break the law. We have
cooperated fully with the Police
Department concerning all regu-
lation and complied accordingly.
We want to thank all officials for
recognizing this matter.
In the past six years, we have
called the police department
twice due to disorderly action at
my place of business. Every week,
we are joined by people from ages
25 to 75 from veterans, military
staff, and grandmothers for week-
ly karaoke.
We have a fundraiser almost
weekly. We have raised money for
our local school, fire department,
wounded soldiers and our troops
fighting overseas. We also have
endeavored to help our local citi-
zens in need. -
Any official from ATF, County
Commissioners or Sheriff
Department is welcome unan-
nounced to our business anytime,
the door is always opened and
you're always welcome. We have
nothing to hide.
To our local businesses there-is
enough business for all of us, and
I'm very sorry you can't recognize
this fact. I'm originally from New
York and we work together for the
good of our neighborhood apd
community.
It is a shame that some feel that
I have hurt the establishment
when all I have is a tarp over a
couple of boards at a gas station
where family and friends meet pn
the weekends to enjoy each others
company and to help others in
need.
If there is anyone in the commnu-
nity we have offended we apolo-
gize and if we disturb anyone,
please feel free to call Lorenzo
and we will take care of the matter
right away. Again I want to thank
the ATF, County Commissioner
and Sheriff Department for recog-
nizing that the complaints listedfn
last week's article were unfound-
ed except the noise from the
music. We are willing to comply to
satisfy all citizens of our neighbor-
hood to keep the peace.
To the person or persons who
sent the letter of complaint, I amt
sure you must have witnessed all
of these alleged activities yourself!
And this concerns me that you did-
n't call the officials yourself r
bring it to my attention. If your
main concern is with the commu-
nity, why didn't you try to bring At
to my attention or the County sher-
iff department so that it could
have been corrected immediately.
I have not seen any of these com-
plaints or alleged allegations nor
have any of my customers. I will libe
glad to talk with you at anytime qr
please contact the local police or
sheriff department immediately
upon seeing unlawful acts at our
place of business.

StJM'I': COUNTY (FL) TIMES, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2008, PAGE. 5
Students get a first-hand look at hospital
Visitors to Leesburg
Regional Medical Center,
part of Central Florida
Health Alliance, may see
what appear to be very young
staff members. Chances are,
however, those 'employees'
are actually Sumter High
School seniors visiting the
hospital as part of a three-
year Medical Careers
Academy (MeCA) that intro-
duces students to jobs in
health care.
"We love to welcome stu-
dents into our hospital," says
Diana Oliver, Leesburg
Regional's credentialing
office, who helps coordinate
the program. "Students have
an opportunity to see what
goes on in the hospital, and
we get to know some of our
future coworkers."
Students from the Bushnell
school can be easily distin-
guished in their unique red
scrubs with black trim-the
school's colors. As seniors in
the program, students visit
Leesburg Regional where
they select four different
areas to observe during two
separate hospital trips.
"They are allowed to job
shadow," says Heather Kadur,
Sumter High's health science
teacher and MeCA coordina-
tor. She explains that stu-
dents get to observe but not
actually participate in the
delivery of care. "They
observe surgery, endoscopy,
heart catheterizations and
patient care. It reinforces
what we talk about in class.
Instead of just saying, 'This is
what you might see, or the
kind of patient you may have,'
the hospital lets them actual-
ly see it."
Students who apply for the
program as ninth graders are
required to have a minimum,
2.5-grade-point average.
As part of the application
process, they prepare an
essay explaining what health
care means to them.
In addition, they must have
approval from a parent or
guardian and a recommenda-
tion from a teacher or mentor.
Once accepted into the pro-
gram, students complete the
course of study that intro-
duces them to various aspects
of healthcare and medical
careers. MeCA students
express diverse .interests
ranging from nursing, mas-
sage therapy and physical
therapy, to pharmacy, radiolo-
gy and pediatrics.
After graduating, students
are eligible to test for the cer-
tified nursing assistant
license and will be certified
in CPR and first aid.
Now in its second year, the
program continues to grow
and expand. Last year, 1Q stu-
dents made the trip to the
hospital; this year that num-
ber doubled.
And feedback from stu-
dents indicates they love
their hospital experience.
"They say things like, 'Wow!
I didn't know that could hap-
pen,"' says Kadur. "They're
very excited. It's a learning
opportunity for them."

rum flavors. They aren't
mixed and they're pre-pack-
aged.
4"I'm not competing with
any business in town. It's a
little fenced-in area with a
couple of coolers," he said.
' "My place here is not a bar
.establishment. It's pretty
-much where friends in the
community have a few beers.
-We raise money and it's just
about fun... it's a family gath-
-ering with friends. We see the
"same faces pretty much
-.every weekend."
He said he doesn't make
n-money from the bar itself
IUsually, Lorenzo's hosts
some kind of event to raise
money for charitable causes.
"I'm paying $400 to have
live entertainment," he said.
"I do it for the people. I don't
do it to make money."
His profit comes from sell-
ing food and beverages
inside the gas station during
the weekends.
-."The convenience store is
.packed. That's where I make
-"money people buying food
like crazy, buying sodas like
crazy, having a great time."
He said he isn't interested
in owning or operating a reg-
ular bar.
"I'm a happily married
man with kids. I can't see
myself committing to that
kind of night life."
When the bar is open,
there are usually 30 to 35
people at a time gathered
outside at Lorenzo's.
The letter to the county
also mentioned safety con-
cerns about people gathering
and smoking near gas pumps.
The author of the letter
wrote, "It is inevitable that
there will be either a fire at
the pump or someone will be
injured or hit by a vehicle."
Addressing the safety con-
cerns, Innabi said gas pumps
stay open unless a large
crowd forms.
"Anytime I do get a serious
crowd outside, and the police
department knows this, I
always close off my gas
pumps to where there's no
traffic going back and forth,"
he said.
"I always manage to either
cone off the area or leave just
one pump open."
Innabi said he encourages
anyone with concerns or
complaints to contact him at
the store so the problem can
be resolved.

Sumter graduation
rate continues
to increase
Each year the Sumter County chapter of the Retired Educators Association gives scholarships to two high school seniors who are
planning to study to become teachers. Club members raise money for the scholarships in various ways. This year, the activities
included a raffle of autographed footballs from the University of Florida, Florida State University, the University of South Florida
and a UF golf shirt. Dr. John Mounger, winner of the UF football, is shown in the picture above with Marilyn Barnes, SCREA schol-
arship chairperson. Becky Reid won the USF football and the UF golf shirt while Ron Slay was the winner of the FSU football.
SECO members grade their co-op
SECO members recently got
to voice their opinions on
their Co-op's performance
during 2007. A comprehen-
sive customer satisfaction
telephone survey was con-
ducted in late November and
December and the results
have now been tabulated. The
bottom line is that the mem-
bers gave the Co-op a great
report card.
The survey, conducted
annually on behalf of SECO
by the National Rural
Electric Cooperative
Association, lets SECO offi-
cials know what is on their
member/consumers' minds
and how well they think their
utility is being run.
Barry Bowman, SECO
Director of Corporate
Communications, said, '"A sta-
tistically valid sample of
members in Marion, Lake,
Citrus and Sumter counties
was surveyed.
Overall, members continue
to think very highly of their
cooperative with a mean
overall satisfaction rating of
8.86 on a 10-point scale with
seven in ten members giving
ratings of 9 or 10."
Bowman noted that the co-
op scored very highly on hav-
ing courteous and friendly
employees, having accurate
and understandable bills,
supporting the local commu-
nity, being environmentally

,Sikes at church, and her par-
"ents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac used
-.to live at this house and were
-well known for their hospital-
ity and kindness," she said.
."Vickie wanted the house to
'be used in a way that would
,honor their memory, which
we intend to do, we now have
a plaque dedicated to them on
-the wall as you come into the
-tearoom."
* Entering the tearoom is an
English experience of unusu-
al gifts and collector's items
with Royal themes. There is a
large lighted dollhouse in
each dining area that were
handmade by Mrs. Bennett's
English friend who construct-
ed the houses on site.
A wide variety of items are for
sale at Polly's Pantry.
There is a large plaque over
an archway in the dining area
with the words, "Friends are
the family one finds along the
way"
The menu offers an assort-
ment of selections including
quiches, salads, homemade
soups and sandwiches and, of
course, a pot of hot tea is
offered as one of the bever-
ages.
If you're in the mood for
dessert, there's always
Knickerbocker Glory or
Brown Derby.
Since coming to Florida,
Mrs. Bennett found a publish-
er for her book that since has
been widely received. Her
book is a story of an orphan
who ends up going on a life-
changing journey to which her
own life can attest. Bennett
was raised in orphanages in
England since birth. At 17, she
said she encountered God's
love that encouraged her to
turn her life around. Bennett
says; "Polly Brown is enjoyed
by all ages from about eleven
to adults. Even guys in drug
rehab have laughed .and cried
their way through it!"
Tricia will be speaking in
California on Cable TV some-
time this spring, and men-
tioned there is already talk of
the book becoming a movie.
Bennett said her long-term
goal is public speaking, shar-
ing her life experiences.
Bennett speaks to various
groups, including Red Hats
Society. She has been a guest
speaker at various church
events and has been inter-
viewed on local and national
television.
The Bennetts have their
own orphanage in India and
organize teams to go there.
They spent 25 years fostering
and rescuing kids in trouble
back in the United Kingdom.
Tricia has always dreamed of
becoming a writer and run-
ning a tearoom and now she
has arrived in Wildwood.
Polly's Pantry is at 819
South Main Street, next to the
Colonial Bank. It is open
Monday through Saturday, 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunches and
snacks. It also serves after-
noon high teas by appoint-
ment. For more information
call 330-6532.
Tricia Bennett stands inside her Wildwood restaurant, Polly's Pantry Tearoom.

Webster man takes national challenge, LSCC Foundation Installs 2008
makes Western Horseman Officers and Board Members
Webster veterinarian and
native Brazilian Volnei
Rodrigues broke his first colt
when he was only 11 years old.
That was when his lawyer
father, who had ridden all his
life, told him it was time to
break his own horse.
Rodrigues said, "My grand-
daddy had horses all his life I
came from horse people."
With those family ties, came
a lesson in horse training from
the gauchos of South America.
"I grew up around the gau-
chos."
Gauchos are the cowboys of
South America.
At the end of last year,
Rodrigues earned national
recognition, taking the chal-
lenge for the 2007 Extreme
Mustang Makeover. It was a
stint that also got him featured,
with other trainers, in the
national magazine Western
Horseman.
"Gaucho" was the North
American mustang that
Rodriques trained. The four-
year-old appeared to be of
Spanish descent, according to
the article by Western
Horseman's Jennifer Zehnder.
Rodrigues joined trainers
from around the United States
in the first makeover a pro-
gram created by the Mustang
Heritage Center in coopera-
tion with the Bureau of Land
Management's.Wild Horse and
Burro Program.
A native Brazilian,
Rodriques is a veterinarian
and has worked extensively
with the wild horses of South
America. As a matter of fact,
Rodrigues and his family have
their own horse ranch in
Webster.
Gaucho, the mustang
Rodrigues trained, was "one of.
the best horses I've broken in
my life. He was very smart and
learned very fast," Rodrigues
said, adding that Gaucho
began to trust early, learning
something new every day.
He said Gaucho was a smart
horse willing to learn. It's
when the horse is smart and
doesn't know how to act that
there's a problem.
Rodrigues said if a horse
hasn't been raised around peo-
ple, "They're very, very scared

Volnei Rodrigues stepped into the 2007 Extreme Mustang
Makeover, training Gaucho. While Rodrigues has a lifetime of
experience breaking and training horses, he said Gaucho was
one of the best horses he's broken. Rodrigues, a veterinarian
who lives in Webster, was one of the trainers featured in the
national Western Horseman magazine article on the makeover.
in the beginning.
'After you work with them a
while they start trusting you.
"We say wild, but horses are
domestic animals."
When horses initially come
in contact with people, their
perception is that humans are
predators, he said.
"Our eyes are like lions,
cougars. We have eyes in front
like predators, that's why we
need to have a lot of patience."
The horse needs to under-
stand that the human is not
going to attack and kill it, he
said.
Through his training meth-
ods, Rodrigues is able to gain
the horse's trust quickly
"On the second day I
touched him," he said, adding
that one of his techniques
includes using another horse
to work with the animal being
trained.
I learned with the gauchos
in South America. They are
very good."
After he and the other win-
ners trained their mustangs,
the horses were auctioned off.
He said there are only two
situations with animals: Either
the person is dominant or the
horse is dominant If the horse
is the dominant character,
"then you have problems."
Rodrigues is very busy, but
said he wanted to take part
and help the mustang pro-
gram. The candidates were
selected by a draw.
Currently, he's working with
"Game Ready Equine," which
features a machine that focus-
es on physical therapy for
horses.
The machine was created in
California, but Rodrigues is
spending much of his time pro-
moting it in Argentina and
Brazil.
As for working with mus-
tangs, Rodrigues gave one def-
inite bit of advice, "If you don't
have the skills, definitely don't
work alone."

they really wanted it (the vic-
tory). They knew how much it
meant, getting to the Final
Four, a special thing that will
be remembered and talked
about. It's like winning all
your games and losing the
Super Bowl.
"I thought we had a great
year and the Jones game was
a great game. It left us a little
short of where we wanted to
go. I felt like the key for us
was to score 60 points.
"We didn't make them work
hard enough. I wanted us to
be a little more patient. I was
really disappointed in their
shot selection.
"I was proud of the kids. I
wish we could have gone fur-
ther."
Snodgrass made a differ-
ence for PEK Yonge.
, "He's (Snograss) a big time
player," said PK. Yonge High
coach Carlos Villalobos. "He
always comes through in the
clutch.
"He was hurt early in the
game. He twisted his ankle
but he didn't want to go out."

Pirates of Penzance performed
Music LIVE, Inc. announces
its fully staged opera produc-
tion of Gilbert and Sullivan's
comic operetta, "Pirates of
Penzance."

March 1 and Sunday, March 2
at the Lake Sumter Community
College Paul P Williams Fine

This presentation will con-
clude the Music LIVE! 2008
Mainstage Opera Season.
"It is, it is a glorious thing to
be a Pirate King!" Everyone
has dreamt of being a pirate
with an eye-patch and cutlass,
and in Gilbert and Sullivan's
operetta everyone gets their
chance. Music LIVE has creat-
ed a riotous new production of
the "Pirates of Penzance" for
its 2008 opera season. When a
boatload of pirates ties up in a
sleepy English seaside town,
the police are alarmed but the
ladies are intrigued. And when
one of the pirates, a naive and
handsome, young apprentice
named Frederic, meets and
falls in love with the daughter
of one of the local pillars of
society, the plot thickens.
Young love triumphs in this
delightful, light-hearted opera
performed in English in the
intimate setting of the Lake
Sumter Community College
Theater.
The International Cast of
performers includes young
Brazilian tenor, Guilherme
Gama, as the handsome young
Frederic; American sopranos
Christie Bell (Saturday per-
formance) and Kaitlyn
McMonigle (Sunday
Performance) as well as New
York baritone Christopher
Sirois as the Pirate King.
The Pirates of Penzance
offers Gilbert's sharp patter ('I
am the very model of a modern
major general...') and hits its
hilarious mark with unerring
skill, combining with musical
talents of Arthur Sullivan, in
what is some consider his
greatest score.
For more information, or to
reserve tickets call Music
LIVE's Lake County Box Office
at (352) 343-2231 or (352) 255-
8865.

all our strawberries are
grown locally? That is
right...Ferris Farms in
Floral City is the sole
provider of all the strawber-
ries used at the Floral City
Strawberry Festival.
The old-fashioned festival
will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and from 9 a.m. to
