Antioch

tract zoning

questioned

Brian Hughes
Crestview News Bulletin
CRESTVIEW A state law requiring the
city to assign a future land use designation
to property it recently annexed has left area
residents concerned that an industrial park
may be created in their neighborhood.
Though the city isn't obligated to actually
assign zoning at this time, "we have to put
a land use category on this property," said
City Council President Chip Wells.
Currently, the nearly 10-acre parcel near
Antioch Road and Antioch Elementary
School is categorized as rural residential
(RR).
The ordinance passed at Monday
evening's council meeting changes it
to industrial (IN) for future land use,
recognizing its traditional use.
"Industrial use of this property makes
sense," said the city's engineering
consultant Jack Dorman. "Industrial use
has, existed on this property since at least
1981."
Compatibility is.ueshavenotarisen from
the parcel's use, Dorman said, reminding
the council they were considering land
use, not zoning or "any project.",
"This area has been predominantly,
for many years, industrial," said Kermit
George, also speaking in favor of
Ordinance 1370, which designates the tract
as industrial.
"The property has been a dirt pit for a
very long time," George said, reminding
city officials, "You have annexed this

property under industrial use."
Their arguments, however, did not
sway a procession of citizens from
the rapidly growing residential areas
surrounding the property who rose to
address the council.
"The area off of Antioch and P.J.
Adams has grown and is no longer an
industrial area," said Brolin Gonzales.
"To rezone this area and make it
industrial is a conflict of interest for the
homeowners."'

A major homeowner concern is. the
limited access to the area, which must
be shared by trucks, and residential
traffic alike.
From State Road 85 to U.S. Highway
90, there is no access except P.J. Adams
Parkway, Gonzalez noted.
To accommodate a newly designated
industrial land use, said Gonzalez, a
new road is needed "that won't affect

CRESTVIEW It may not have giant
helium balloons or performances from
Broadway's hottest new productions, but
the 2007 Downtown Crestview Christmas
Parade will have something lots more
meaningful:
Plenty of good, homegrown, down-
home holiday cheer and good will.
For Saturday's extravaganza, the Main
Street Crestview Association has received
more than 150 entries.
Area businesses, churches, civic
organizations, schools and clubs will
participate.
With the theme "Christmas in Crestview
Through the Eyes of a Child," the parade
will feature marching bands, ROTC units,
musical entertainment, and floats of
various shapes and sizes.
Eyes will pop at the sight of the
Crestview Police Department's new
Humvee show car and the Crestview Fire
Department's ladder truck. .
Showers of candy will descend on
parade goers of, all ages, and of course,
Santa Claus will bring the event to a close
as the jolly man in red welcomes the
Christmas season to the north end of the
county.
The parade, which is co-sponsored by
the Main Street Crestview Association
and the city of Crestview, will follow the
traditional south-to-north route up Main
Street, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

BORDER CROSSINGS
Brian Hughes

A Christmas pilgrimage

close to home

VERNON, Fla. I've
often thought it'd be neat
to visit the Holy Land for
Christmas.
But then, maybe seeing
the "actual" site of the
Nativity might take. some
of the joyous mystery from
the whole event. I mean,
who determined the exact
place where Jesus was born,
anyway? Did archeologists
unearth an ancient sign
reading "Bethlehem Inn:
No Vacancy Except for
Stable" on the site?
A fundamentalist
former colleague used to
get terribly antsy over the
holidays. "Christmas is a
pagan holiday!" Charles
would declare. "It's based
on an old Roman festival!"
My office, which looked
like someone (OK, me)
had exploded a Christmas
bomb in it, made him
uneasy.
Still, I agreed with him
that Dec. 25 is an arbitrary
date, and certainly Jesus
wasn't born exactly 2,007
years ago.
But, I pointed out to
Charles, we humans need
some definites in the
nebulous realm of faith,
and so created a date to
celebrate one of the most
momentous births in the
history of mankind.
And what better way to
lure those pagan, multiple-
god-worshiping Romans
to our side than to usurp
their Saturnal holiday
for our observance of the
Messiah's birth.
This somewhat placated
Charles. 'He could at least
stop by my office and
admire my shimmering
aluminum tree with less
angst. (Mom purchased
that heirloom during a late
'60s lapse of taste.)
A pilgrimage to the
birthplace of Christianity,
for many, fosters an even,
stronger connection to
their religion, and further
satisfies the human desire
for something "real"
to identify with faith's
intangibles.
But with airfare as high as
the Middle East's political
uncertainty, making a
more local pilgrimage for
Christmas makes a -lot of
sense from an economic, as
well as safety standpoint,
and still .yields similarly
rich spiritual rewards.

"Christmas at

Then it's off to Grandma's

The Golden Compass has no moral compass

J. Matt Barber

With its fantasy world backdrop,
sympathetic talking animals and
extravagant battle scenes, the
new movie, The Golden Compass,
may resemble C.S. Lewis' The
Chronicles of Narnia. But parents
be advised, this film which is
very intentionally being marketed
toward children is nothing of the
sort.
The Golden Compass was created
with the benefit of a multimillion
dollar budget and big name actors
such as Nicole Kidman, Kevin
Bacon and Sam Elliot. It opens Dec.
7 and promises to be action-packed
and visually stunning in the epic
tradition of Narnia or The Lord of the
Rings.
But upon closer review, it
becomes abundantly dear that both
this movie and the man behind it
have a very certain anti-Christian
axe to grind.
Based on the first of three
secular humanist children's books
by avowed atheist and British
author Phillip Pullman, The Golden
Compass provides the opening
"down with God" salvo in the
author's His Dark Materials trilogy.
Pullman leaves little question as
to his books' central theme. "I don't
profess any religion," he is quoted
as saying. "I don't think it's possible
that there is a God; I have the
greatest difficulty understanding
what is meant by the words
'spiritual' or 'spirituality.'"
Ironically, Pullman's confident
pronouncement that there is no
God appears to take an exclusive
backseat to his hatred for the very
God he denies. "My books are
about killing God," he told The
Sydney Morning Herald in a 2003
interview. And in the trilogy's final
offering, The Amber Spyglass,
he does just that he knocks off
the Almighty in a delusional fit of
grandeur.
Pullman's books drip with
moral relativism, that deceptively
sweet, yet fruitless nectar of the
secular humanist. His portrayal of
God which is dearly intended to
personify the Christian church is
that of an evil authoritarian who
spitefully stifles human creativity,
arbitrarily punishing mankind
for very naturally and properly
entertaining base impulses with
unfettered license.
In a telling and pivotal moment
in the series, a former nun named
"Mary Malone," who is a central
character, poignantly reflects upon
her realization that God does not
exist:
"There's no one to fret, no one
to condemn, no one to bless me for
being a good girl, no one to punish
me for being wicked. Heaven was
empty. I didn't know whether God
had died, or whether there never
had been a God at all."
And isn't that what atheism is
all about, really? Our fallen desire
to have, "no one to punish (us) for
being wicked." If we can convince
ourselves that there is no God, then
we escape accountability for what
we do, or so we believe. It's not so
much atheism as it is anti-theism. In
fact, atheism is every bit a religion
as any other. But in the church of

the nonbeliever, the high priest is
cloaked beneath the vestment of
pseudo-"sdcience" and parishioners
worship at the altar of moral
anarchy.
Still, like so much else in our
culture, Pullman's aversion to
God would appear to boil down
to sex. Mary Malone explains that
her desire for sex was her primary
purpose for abandoning the God
in Whom she no longer believes.
"And I thought: am I really going
to spend the rest of my life without
ever feeling that again? ... And I
took the crucifix from around my

At this time of year, most
people fall into two types: Those
who look forward to the holiday
season, and those who dread it.
Many people end up in the latter
camp because of money worries.
You know how easy it is to
overspend on holiday gifts, travel
and entertainment and how long
it can take your wallet to recover.
These tips might help move
you from apprehension to
anticipation:
Know your budget. First
calculate what you can afford to

was how I stopped being a nun,"
she recounts.
Author and attorney David

"It seems the most militant

Don't forget the other 11

setting aside money right now,
not racking up holiday debt. It's
challenging, but if you budget all
year for recurring expenses, you
won't be caught off guard when
vour car insurance comes due.
Banish Santa guilt. Somehow
many of us have bought into
the myths that our kids will
be disappointed if they don't

that neighbors and coworkers

Psalm 14:1 tells us, "The fool
says in his heart, 'There is no God.'
They are corrupt, their deeds are
vile; there is no one who does

With The Golden Compass, Phillip
Pullman shares his heart with
us a heart that says, "There is
no God." And he clearly wants to
influence your child's heart as well.
This movie's creation or chance

Along the same lines, ask
your family (and your friends)
about holding a gift lottery, where
you draw names from a hat and
concentrate your time, effort and

gift for that special person.
Be creative. You don't have to
break the bank to bring happiness
- the gift of your time is far more
valuable than mere objects:
If grandma's closets are
overflowing, she probably
doesn't need more sweaters
but she might appreciate a "gift

Friends with a toddler will
cherish free babysitting far more
than a blender.
Your teenager might love.

Be charitable. If you're
agonizing over what to give
someone who already has
everything she needs, turn that

targeted toward unsuspecting
children with the furtive goal of
enlisting the next generation of
"fools."
But do as he will, the loving God
Whom Pullman rejects is bigger
than all that. He's so big, in fact,
that He gave his only Son for you,
me, and yes, Phillip Pullman.
Just the same, I think I'll spend
my eleven bucks somewhere else.

a little more than four million
people representing 26 of the 32
counties in the Irish peninsula,
88.4 percent of its population
are Roman Catholic. The other
six counties make up Northern
Ireland. Many in Ireland will tell
you that Northern Ireland was

not settled originally by Celts, but
by Scots. Ireland is slightly larger
'than West Virginia, occupying
5 / 6 of the island of Ireland in the
North Atlantic Ocean west of
Great Britain.
The economy of Ireland has'
been the best in the European
community for some time,
growing at an average rate of six
percent from 1995 to 2006. It is
presently slowing down but still
will be more than three percent.
Ireland has a small, modern, trade-
dependent economy.
Industry and service businesses
are key. It has the lowest
corporate tax rate in the European
community. Many U.S. companies
have placed offices or subsidiaries
in Ireland. The labor force by
'occupation has eight percent in
agriculture, 29 percent in industry
and 64 percent in the service
industries (this is a 2002 estimate).
The unemployment rate in 2006
was 4.3 percent. Ten percent of
the Irish population is below the
poverty line (1997 estimate).
This economy has been a

blessing for Ireland and has
attracted people from all around
the world. In the last several years
more Americans now immigrate
to Ireland than people from
Ireland immigrate to the United
States. This change is probably
the most dramatic example of
how Ireland not only has a strong
economy, but is also looked at as a
wonderful place to live.
This strong economy is
causing some problems through
immigration. At the present time
there are approximately 250,000
Polish citizens who have legally
moved to Ireland because of the
poor economy in Poland. Many
of the Irish will tell you, they are
delighted to have these people,
as they have good educational
backgrounds, are hard working
and have fit into the society fairly
easily. The rules of the EU allow
citizens of one country to move
around without a passport to
other EU countries.
However, there have been
problems created as people
have moved to Ireland who are

not citizens of the EU, but are
granted asy lum when they fly
into countries such as Germany
and England. This has apparently
happened with individuals from
Africa, who some in Ireland will
tell you do not have the same
educational background or work
ethic, according to the Irish.
The problem is primarily felt in
schools. There have been stories
in the paper about how private
schools are now being formed
to avoid the problems created
by the new w %ave of immigrants.
The problem of immigration is
growing and if not now, in a year
will be one of the most important .
political problems throughout
the EU. The world is truly getting
smaller and perhaps the problems
in other countries will bring a
little bit more understanding to
the problems that we face in the
United States.

Medleys celebrate 50th anniversary

Brian Hughes
Crestview News Bulletin

CRESTVIEW On the
day she said "I do," Pat
Medley received a letter
from her mother, Azalia
Woolley, neatly written on
lined yellow paper.
"Dear Pat, Everyone is
talking of your beautiful
wedding. ... I hope that in
the future the memories
of your wedding day
will serve as an anchor
and reminder that your
marriage with such a
beautiful beginning is too
precious to be anything but
just right through life.....
"Our prayer for you is
that God will walk with Ray
and you through life. May
his great love for you enrich
the love you have for each
other and protect you from
every harm. Love, Mom."
Fifty years after the letter

was written on Nov. 27,
1957, Pat and Ray Medley
of Crestview celebrated
their golden anniversary.
While November might
seem an unusual month
for a wedding, both bride
and groom were Crestview
teachers and had to fit
their wedding around
the Thanksgiving school
holiday.
Pat Medley was teaching
physical education and
third grade at Southside
Elementary School. Ray was
a P.E. teacher at Richbourg
Middle School.
To celebrate their
anniversary, the Medleys
are enjoying a vacation
trip to Palm Beach and St.
Augustine.
The hope and sentiments
of Mrs. Woolley's letter
continue to work their
magic.

Special to The Bulletin

Pat and Ray Medley celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on Nov. 27.

Crestview News Bulletin

Amvets Post 35
delivered more than 170
free meals to families who
otherwise would not have
gotten a traditional turkey
dinner on Thanksgiving.
There were no pre-
qualifications or questions
other than how many
meals were needed per
household.
"We didn't ask them
if they were members of
our post, or what religion
they were, or how much
money they made. All we
wanted from them was
an address and nothing
more," said Bruce Hoon,
Amvet Post 35 public
relations officer.
This is not the first time
Amvets has done this
and it is something they
feel is vitally important
to their post image and
community outreach. And
it seems to be working

better than anticipated.
This is the 10th year this
program has been in
place.
One recipient, speaking
on behalf of her four
children, said, "God bless
them, because all I had
to do was make a phone
call and tell them where
I lived and how many
meals I needed."
The lady, who asked
not to be identified,
also said that no one
else had contacted her
or her children about a
Thanksgiving meal.
As Hoon said, "Amvet
members manned the
phones; and based upon
the number of calls and
number of meals required,
we went to work post
wide and everybody got
involved"
A small army of
volunteers hand delivered
the hot, fresh meals of
turkey and dressing,
greens beans, corn, fruit
and pumpkin pie to homes

From staff reports

The Crestview Wal-Mart
will celebratethe company's
-support of the Salvation
Army by participating in
-the company's nationwide
"Bells Ringing Across
America" event on Tuesday,
Nov. 27.
During this half-hour
event, associates at Wal-
Mart and Sam's Clubs will
staff the.red kettles in front
of all their stores to ring the

bells and invite customers
to support the annual
campaign. The event is set
for 10:30 a.m.
Last year, the Salvation
Army collected a record
$30 million in front of
Wal-Mart stores and Sam's
Club locations. Funds
donated by customers
helped the Salvation Army
serve 35 million people by
providing food, shelter,
and clothing.
Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott

will ring the red kettle bell
at a Wal-Mart store in Battle
Creek, Mich. during this
event. He will then present
a check for $1,000,000 from
the Wal-Mart Foundation
to the Salvation Army
to further exhibit the
company's support of the
campaign.
Crestview Wal-Mart
Manager Jon Kurpil urges
customers to support the
Salvation Army during this
holiday season.

Consumer charitable

giving guide for the

holiday season

PENSACOLA Tis' the
season for giving and there
are many ways you can
give back to your commu-
nity this holiday season.
Whether you're donat-
ing money, gifts, or your
time, the BBB Wise Giving
Alliance has guidance to
belp make sure your contri-
butions have the most ben-
efit for those in need this
holiday season.
According to the Giving
USA .Foundation, dona-
io~ns totaled $295 billion
in 2006; individuals ac-
counted for 83.3 percent of
this amount. In addition to
donations, more than 61
million Americans volun-
teered their time for chari-
table and national service
organizations.
* If you plan on being one
of the millions of Americans
donating time or money
this holiday season, the BBB
.Wise Giving Alliance offers
the following advice:
When in doubt, check
it out. When an unfamiliar
organization asks you for a
donation, don't give with-
out gathering details about
the charity, the nature of
its programs and its use of
funds. Also contact the BBB
Wise Giving Alliance or go
to bbb.org/charity for a
'BBB Wise Giving Report on
the charity.
Think before you give.
If you are solicited at the
mall or on the street, take a
minute or two to think. Ask
for the charity's name and

address. Get full identifica-
tion from the solicitor and
review it carefully. Ask to
see written information on
the charity's programs and
finances.
Giving later might be
better. Never feel pressured
to give on the spot.
Legitimate charities will
welcome your money to-
morrow. If the solicitor
pressures you with intimi-
dation or harassing phone
calls, don't hesitate to file a
complaint with your BBB.
Watch out for cases
of mistaken identity. With
more than one million
charities in the U.S., it's.not
surprising 'that some char-
ity names sound alike. Be
careful that the one solicit-
ing you is the one you have
in mind.
I Don't accept vague
claims. If something is be-
ing sold to benefit a char-
ity, be wary of vague state-
ments such as "all proceeds
go to charity," or "Your pur-
chase will benefit a charity."
Look for a disclosure that
indicates the actual or esti-
mated amount of the pur-
chase price that the charity
will receive to fund its pro-
grams;
Unordered merchan-
dise is free. If a charity
sends you greeting cards,
address labels or other mer-
chandise with an appeal for
donations, you are not obli-
gated to make a donation or
pay for the items.
Watch out for charity

fraud. Legitimate charities
do not demand donations;
they willingly provide writ-
ten information about their
programs, finances or how
donations are used; and
they never insist you pro-
vide your credit card num-
ber, bank account number
or any other personal infor-
mation.
Donate toys, food or
services. Consider donat-
ing food, toys, clothing or
other items needed during
the holidays. Volunteering
your time is another useful
and much appreciated op-
tion,
Remember, not all so-
liciting groups are charities.
If you want to take a chari-
table deduction for federal
income tax purposes, make
sure to verify the organi-
zation's tax-exempt status
first. You can check out a
charity's tax-exempt sta-
tus at http://apps.rs.gov/
app/pub78.

For additional
trustworthy
information and
advice from the

Alliance on how
to make informed
donor decisions this
holiday season start

Okaloosa County Commision

names 2008 chairmen

Commissioners James
Campbell and Bill Roberts
are chair-elect and vice-
chair-elect, respectively,
for the Okaloosa County
Board of Commissioners
as of Tuesday, Nov. 13.
"I have great
confidence in their ability
to carry Okaloosa County
forward," stated current
Commission Chair Don
Amunds.
Campbell, who served
as vice-chair in 2007,
represents District 5.
Campbell was selected
for the 2007-08 Edition
of Who's Who in the
national Heritage Registry
for his service to local
government.

Roberts is a native of the
Okaloosa County and he
serves District 3. He has
a history of public service
as a past councilman
and mayor of Ft. Walton
Beach.
The commissioners will
assume their new roles at
the first board meeting in
January. They both have
offices in the Water & Sewer
Administration Building
and can be reached at
651-7105. Commissioner
Roberts also has an office
in Crestview and can be
reached at 689-5030.
Both can be e-mailed from
the Okaloosa County Web
site at www.co.okaloosa.

Florida Office of Insurance

Regulation denies Allstate
-d -d

rate hike
TALLAHASSEE Florida
Insurance Commissioner
Kevin McCarty recent-'
ly announced that the
Florida Office of Insurance
Regulationhasissued Notices
of Intent to disapprove five
rate filings submitted by
Allstate Floridian Insurance
Company, Allstate Indemnity
Company, Encompass
Floridian Insurance Comp-
any and Encompass Floridian
Indemnity Company.
The companies were seek-
ing double-digit statewide,
overall average rate increases
for homeowners insurance:
Allstate Floridian
Insurance Company: 43.4
percent
Allstate Floridian
Indemnity Company: 27.4
percent
Encompass Floridian
Insurance Company: 39.7
percent
Encompass Floridian
' Insurance Company: 36.5
percent (Dwelling Fire)
Encompass Floridian
Indemnity Company: 41.6
percent
Some Allstate policyhold-
ers could have seen increases
of as much as 150 percent. On
the other end, some of the
requested increases were as
low as six percent.
"Our action is based on a
thorough review of the infor-
mation previously provided
by the companies and their

request

testimony at the hearing,"
said McCarty. "The rates pro-
posed by the Allstate com-
panies do not pass along all
the savings reasonably avail-
able as a result of the expan-
sion of the Florida Hurricane
Catastrophe Fund."
Special legislation adopt-
ed in January made lower-
priced reinsurance available
to insurers.
"It was the intent of
Gov. Crist and the Florida
Legislature that the lower-
priced reinsurance would
enable insurance companies
to pass along significant sav-
ings to their policyholders,"
added McCarty.
Reinsurance is the insur-
ance that companies buy to
cover large losses.
While reviewing the situ-
ation, Florida Senator Don
Gaetz said, "Of course, while
stopping further skyrocket-
ing rate hikes is absolutely
essential, I won't be satisfied
and neither should you until
property and casualty insur-
ance premiums are balanced
with real, fair, and accurate
risks."
Allstate now may peti-
tion the Florida Office of
Insurance Regulation for
an administrative hear-
ing through the Division of
Administrative Hearings
(DOAH). In the meantime,
homeowners insurance rates
previously submitted by the

Allstate companies will re-
main in effect until the pro-
cess is concluded. They are
as follows:
Allstate Floridian
Insurance Company: -
14.2 percent
Allstate Floridian
Indemnity Company:
-13.2 percent
Encompass Floridian
Insurance Company: -13.0
percent
Encompass Floridian
Insurance Company: -12.3
percent (Dwelling Fire)
Encompass Floridian
Indemnity Company:
-11.2 percent
The decision to deny
the rate increases followed
a public hearing in which
the Office of Insurance
Regulation questioned vari-
ous aspects of the rate filings.
Video of the hearing will be
available soon on the Office's
Web site.
The commissioner has the
authority to hold a public
hearing to question a compa-
ny about its filing pursuant
to Florida law. Florida law
requires a public hearing for
rate increase filings exceed-
ing a statewide average of 15
percent.

www.floir.com. If you would

rates in Florida, go to www.

Grand Master Rhee and
Grand Master Hwang, one
of the top two originals in
the International Taekwon-

Gordon's facility recently.
It was the first time these
two veterans have come
together at Gordon Martial

from Alabama, Canada,
Connecticut, Michigan,
New York, Mississippi and
Florida to be a part of the
event.
"It was great," Gordon
said. "
"It was an opportunity
of a lifetime for a lot of
people, and even though
we didn't have a large
turnout, the experience
with both Grand Masters
was irreplaceable."
On July, 1 1997 Grand
Master Rhee was the first

With basketball and soccer
just now underway, we can't
forget about the sport that's been
dated back to the Romans and
the Greeks.
How about wrestling?
The Crestview wrestling team
has already kicked off their
Super 8 Dual and is setting their
sights on their big dual meet at
Davidson Middle School against
Choctaw.
What's different about a dual
meet?
Not only will the varsity

and junior varsity compete, but
this will be Crestview's only
dual meet for the entire season,
making this a must to participate
in.
With coach Jeff Fowler steering
the reigns, the Bulldogs (5-2) are
hoping to have one of their best
years.
In the Super 8 Dual Crestview
went 4-1 and finished second
in the finals. This is the schools
second time in wrestling history
that they went home with a
trophy.
Senior Captain Kyle Miller
is now 35 wins from 100 career
wins (he'll be the third CHS
wrestler to accomplish this feat).

Wrestling is certainly a sport
that doesn't condone failure, but
only strength and skill. The more

and hands on event,'
but also participated
in a testing that earned
five of Gordon Martials
Arts' regulars a new
achievement, as well as a
title to take home.
"What ,mad this
seminar different from
the rest is that we had not
one but two 9th degrees,"
Gordon said.
"Rhee covered a lot
of the history behind
Taekwon-Do and Hwvang
, covered the hand to hand
teachings. They both
stepped in when we were
sparring or doing kicks
and they would correct
anything they saw wrong.
It was very helpful to our
students."
One of the most
-interesting things Tom'
Gordon spoke about was
Hwang's demonstration
of generation to power;
a technique that deems
strength from within
rather from size.
And with a flagship of
joint seminars setting a
standard for what's new
in martial arts schools,
Gordon is looking to do it
again in the future.
"I would definitely do
this again. I'm already
looking to next year and
[i'm excited," Gordon
41-

said.
"We now have two 5th
degrees (Tom Gordon and
newly appointed, Greg
Bledsoe) in the school,
my wife Lisa received 4th
degree, and we have a
handful of others making
their way up.
I think that we're going
to start expanding our
view from the public. I'm
hoping people see what
we're doing here and
come join us."
Testing was held on
a Friday, with the event
spanning from Saturday
to Sunday morning.
"We can't take
these opportunities for
granted, because no man
is promised tomorrow,
Gordon said."I,
"It's what drives me
and the people in this
school."

Cell Phones for Soldiers
hopes to turn old cell
phones into more than
2 million minutes of
repaid calling cards
r U.S. troops sta-
tioned overseas. The
cell phones are sold to
a company that recy-
cles them and the
money is used to pur-
chase calling cards that
are sent to our troops.
We are proud to be a
