Special to the Mayo Free Press
The tax preparer for a Live Oak building con-
tractor convicted of tax fraud has pleaded guilty
to a misdemeanor in connection with the case.
Barbara E. Coulthurst, of Mayo, pleaded guilty
in December to accessory after the fact to the fil-
ing of false federal tax returns: Coulthurst admit-
ted to knowingly submitting the false returns of
Live Oak building contractor Joseph Barney
Wainwright Jr. for 2000 and 2001, court records
show. Wainwright was convicted of tax fraud and
sentenced in October to 18 months in prison.
Coulthurst, who will be sentenced Feb. 18, faces
up to six months in federal prison, though under
the terms of a plea agreement she is expected to
receive probation. However, she still faces a. possi-
ble fine of up to $90,000. IRS Special Agent Norm
Meadows said Wednesday that he doesn't expect
Coulthurst will be ordered to pay restitution,
since the tax liability incurred was Wainwright's.
Court records indicate that Coulthurst "initially

You may have noticed the campers parked at
Airline Baptist Church, just west of Mayo on US

Campers On Mission (COM) is their name and
working for the Lord is their game. These angels
are decked out in work clothes, carrying the tools
of their trade the building trade.

Alabama. His band of angels has been working
since November on the new church building.

HEART
"He who dies with the
most toys, wins." No
doubt you've seen this
bumper sticker that ex-
presses the theme for our
culture, more. Greed is
the supplier and source
for this "more" and a
dangerous enemy to our
hearts and relationships.
This problem doesn't just
affect those who are rich
or powerful, no doubt
every one of us has been
caught up. in, having
plenty, but wanting
more, we are all at risk.
The definition of greed
is an excessive desire for
wealth or gain that can
never be satisfied,
enough is never enough.
In Ecclesiastes 5:10, the
Bible says: "Whoever
loves money never has
money enough; whoever
loves wealth is never sat-
MATTERS
isfied with his income."
The real issue here is not
money, but the love of it.
Simply put, greed is
about not being satisfied
with what we have, and
believing that we will
only be satisfied- when
we ge more."
"People who want to
get rich fall into tempta-
tion and a trap and into
many foolish and harm-
ful desires that plunge
men into ruin and de-
struction. For the love of
money is the root of all
kinds of evil. Some peo-
ple, eager for money
have wandered from
their faith and pierced
themselves with many
griefs." (1 Timothy 6:9-
10)
It is interesting that the
Bible calls the love of,
money the "root" of all
MEN "KNOW" MEN?
evil. On a tree, we can
see the leaves, bark and
branches, but not the
root, it is the hidden part.
Greed is not an actiqi?
that we can see, but a
motive behind our deci-
sions. This can make
greed hard to detect in
our lives because we can.
be skilled in hiding those,
motives and justifying
our actions. However,
we cannot hide them
from God, and we
should be grateful for
that. Left alone, greed
leaves us miserably un-
satisfied and can cause
serious damage in our re-
lationships.
According to Proverbs
15:27, "A greedy man
brings trouble to his fam-
ily" I'm sure that you
could, make your own

brings to a family, but
.here are a few I came up
with: becoming a worka-
holic that never sees your
family, quarreling with
family members over in-
heritance from a loved
one, stealing from an em-
ployer, cheating on taxes,
withholding money from
someone in need and ne-
gletirig. giving to our
church. In making these
choices we may think we
will get ahead, but, the
truth is we lose so much
more than we gain: rela-
tionships, trust, respect, a
good name and God's
blessings. The good
news is we don't have to
give in to greed, selfish
ambition or hidden mo-
tives- -to get what we,
need. Philippians 4:19
holds the promise "andt
my God will meet all
your needs, according to
His glorious riches in
Christ Jesus." Ask God
to search your heart for
any hidden motives of
greed, to forgive you and
to help you battle this en-
emy of your heart and re-
lationship. Trust Him to
do so because your heart
matters!

David H. Matier, Doctor of
Pastoral Counseling
You, man or woman,
probably '"know" a lot of
other people. Someone
has said, "You have a lot
of associates but few
friends." In other words
there usually are a lot of
people you "know" ca-
sually. But the term
"know" has come to
mean something with far-
less depth than it did at
one time.
The Christmas season
has come and gone for
another year and you
have heard the Christ-
mas story another time.
In Matthew's narrative
of the story, Matthew
1:18-25, in verse, 25, the
Bible says, "And 'knew"
her not till, she had
brought forth her first-
born son."' That doesn't
.mean Joseph didn't
know who Mary was!
In Genesis 19 two an-
gels came to Sodom .in
the evening and Lot in-
vited them to spend the
night in his home.
Meanwhile, according to
the Bible, the men of the
city surrounded the
house and verse 5 says,
,"And they called unto
Lot, and said unto him,
Where are the men [ad-
dressing Lot concerning
the angels] which came
in unto thee this night?
bring them out unto us
that we may "know"
them." And if you go on
and read the chapter
you'll see they wouldn't
take no for an answer
and as a result verses 24
and 25 say, "Then the
Lord rained upon
Sodom and Gomorrah
brimstone and fire from
the Lord out of heaven;
And he overthrew those
cities and all the plain,
and all the inhabitants of
the cities, and that which
grew upon the ground."
God destroyed Sodom
and Gomorrah because
the sin of homosexuality
had become so rampant.
Man is not to "know"
man!
Christians must take a
firm stand against sin.
Showing love ,to those
involved in sin to gain an
ear to tell them about
how much Christ loves
them and how he sacri-
ficed Himself for them
too.

ROLES CHANGE IN
IRAQ FOR BRACKIN
Aaron Anthony Jones
Aaron Anthony Jones,
son of Tony and April
Jones, celebrated his first'
birthday on Wednesday,
December 17, 2008. A
number of friends and
family attended his live-
ly birthday party on Sat-
urday, Dec. 20.
Aaron likes to "move
it, move it" when he
hears music and loves to
play "patty cake." His fa-
vorite cartoons are the
Mickey Mouse Club-
house, Tigger & Pooh,
Veggie Tales, and Handy
Mandy.'
Aaron is truly fulfilling
his name's meaning of
"Strong, Exalted" as he is
both extremely strong,
affectionate and loves at-
tention. Aaron is already*
showing signs of being
athletic just like his fa-
ther, Tony Jones and Un-
cle Tamar Jones, who
both were stand out ath-
letes at Lafayette High
School.
Aaron and his parents
are looking forward to
experiencing all the ad-
ventures to come in 2009.
Paternal grandparents
are Freddie and Sharon
Jones of Mayo.

As the new Iraqi Sta-
tus of Forces Agreement
(SOFA) became effective
midnight, January 1st,
2009, roles have not only
changed for Lafayette
.County resident Bryan
N. Brackin, but for the.
entire Multinational
force in Iraq. Falling in
with other seasoned
combat units throughout
the country, Brackin and
his fellow Riverine's Mis-
sion is no longer ."Stand
Alone" combat patrols
and direct action against
the enemy, but rather
training and various
transitional duties with
the Iraqi Police and
Provincial Security
forces.
"The Iraqi public as a
whole is eager to get
back to a normal way of
life without the presence
of foreign soldiers in
their country, and it's our
job to make sure that in
the end the local and
Provincial authorities
can perform their duties
without our help", said
Brackin. But the danger
is still very much present
in Iraq. Terrorist activity
continues to occur, and
much of it still on Iraq's
waterways. That's where
the Iraqi special River
Police Force comes into
play. The Iraqi River Po-
lice, disbanded by the
old regime at the outset
of combat operations in
2003, is being reestab-
lished and expertly re-
trained by the Riverine
Training Team, of which
Brackin is the assistant
NCOIC-. When asked
what Petty Officer
Brackin thought of his
new role of being a train-
er instead of a Gunboat
Captain, he said "The
sooner we get these guys
trained up, and able to
stabilize the communi-
ties along Iraq's water-
ways, the sooner the
coalition force footprint
will become smaller, and
that means that fewer of
our boys will be sent out
here, we'll be able to re-
inforce and refit our
forces back home".
Petty Officer Brackin is
a resident of Day, FL and
will be deployed to Al
Anbar province, Iraq un-
til late spring, 2009. He
welcomes any corre-
spondence from back
home, and left his' ad-

The
trip
of
a lifetime
By Donald Hurst
Margaret and I had yearned for
many years to visit where Jesus
walked, lived and died and was
buried. Recently we made that trip.
The pictures tell only a small part of
what we saw and FELT.
We left Gainesville and returned to
Gainesville as part of the total trip
which was included in the expenses
of that trip.
We chose Pilgrim Tours and joined
with a pastor of the Family Church of
Gainesville to lead us with others of
the churches; twenty people all total.
We flew Delta non-stop from At-
lanta to Tel-Avia about 12-14 hours in
the air each way.
We visited the headwater of the Jor-
dan River up very near Lebanon with
fence along the border. We sailed on
the Sea of Galilee. Some were dipped.
in the Jordan River.
Some of the places we visited were
Simon the Tanner's home, the great
theater on the Mediterranean Coast at
S"^ .,1
Bet She'an National Park.
We spent a day in and on the Dead
Sea, the fort and palace on top of a
mountain where all, over 800 men,
women and children were found dead
rather than submit to the Roman
army; the story of Casada is so mov-
ing and inspiring that many of the Is-
rael Military officers receive their
commission at Masada. We spent a
day or more on the Temple Mount
and at the City of David; the Western
Wall, the great gold covered Moslem
Mosque, and many more locations.
The location that made "Holy
Bumps" was the pathway where Jesus
carried the cross, his crucifixion site
and the tomb where He lay. I took no
pictures there.
The trip was great, and heart-warm-
ing!
One of the questions we frequently
get asked is "how much did it cost?"
The total price for Margaret and I was
$7,000. We are also asked, "was it dan-
gerous?" to which we can say, "no."

submitted by Donald Hurst"
In previous articles we have written
about Clayette Dees working on at
the University of Florida in basketball
in 1947, about Wyatt O'Steen being
awarded a football scholarship by UF
and being "farmed out" to Chipola
Junior College when he lettered in
football, basketball, and baseball, for
two years.
We wrote of Kenny Folsom signing
a football scholarship in 1968 where
he lettered his freshman year. He
cracked a bone in his neck. and could
never again play football, though he
remained on scholarship.
The next varsity college football
players came from the 1981 "state
championship" team as 11th graders
in '81-82.'
Kerwin Bell was and is the most fa-
mous of the LHS graduates who
played football at UF and profession-
al ball. Much has been written about
his great career in football, while
leading UF to conference champi-
onship. He set many conference and
UF records and went on to play in the
NFL and in Canadian professional
football. -
As his active career playing in pro-
fessional football ended he agreed to
begin a program at Trinity Catholic
High School in Ocala. He was a very
successful high school football coach -.
while at Trinity he led his team to one
state championship and one runner-
up .to the championship. He is now
the head .football coach at Jacksonville
University.
Terry Fillyaw was the other 1983
LHS graduate to play major college
football, though as a, walk-on at Flori-
da State University where he "made"
the team, dressed for all home games,
some 'away games, and played in
three games.
Terry has had a storied career. After
graduating from LHS he entered col-

lege (drama) in New York City. After
two semesters in the "Big Apple" was
enough, he went into the U.S. Navy
Special Forces as a diver. He saw ser-
vice in Spain, Panama near (Middle)
East away among other places.
From special services to Santa Fe
Community College and then to FSU
where he "walked on" to the football
with the urging of Taylor McGrew
and later the blessings of Coach Bow-
den.
He is blessed with many happy
memories .of his FSU career such as
running out onto the field before a
game to the cheers of thousands, go-
ing to a cookout at Coach Bowden's
house and hanging around until it
was only him and Coach Bowden
rocking on the back porch until well
into the night just having great con-
versation together.
Terry began his teaching career at
LHS in 1994 and helped coach the
second LHS football team to play in a
state championship title game.
During that time he,was at LHS, he
landed a part in the Demi Moore
movie, "G.I. Jane." What a job, to go
to work with Demi Moore and all
others in this movie.
Next he taught in Columbia County
and re-united with Kenny Snider,
coaching football and still teaching in
Columbia County, he agreed to help
Kerwin Bell at Trinity in Ocala.
From Trinity Catholic High School
to Jacksonville University where he
was assistant football coach with Ker-
win.
When his daughter recently wanted
to know "did he love football more
'than he love her," he knew the long
days of teaching in Cplumbia County
and driving to Jacksonville working
2-4 more hours was over. He is in his
15th year of teaching and loves the
children and his job, but no coaching
for now.

Exercise Tips for Seniors Starting Anew
Babies today have it better than those that came before them. That's
because, according to a 2007 report from the U.S. Census Bureau, a baby,
born today has a lot more life to look forward to than one born 50 years
ago. A child born today can expect to be around for the next 78 years, ,
whereas one born half a century ago had a projected life span of nine
fewer years.
While some might suggest this longer life expectancy is a product of
people taking better care of themselves, others might say it's due in large
part to advances in medicine.
Whatever the reason, it's obvious more and more seniors are living longer
lives, and many are hoping to add even more miles to their odometers.
One way to do just that is through exercise. But for seniors who haven't
hit the gym in a while, starting an exercise regimen can be an intimidating,
if not confusing, experience. Seniors looking to make exercise a regular
part of their lives should consider the following tips along the way.
* Seek medical advice: The first thing you should do, everin before lacing
up your first sneaker, is visit a doctor. Each individual is different, and a
doctor will let you know what you, personally, should and should not be
doing as you begin a new exercise regimen. In addition, a checkup could
reveal problems you might not be aware of.
* Recognize limitations: If you have not lifted a weight or run a step in 20
years, you're not going to be able to simply pick up where you left off.
Recognizing your physical limitations is paramount to the success of your
new program. For seniors, the point of exercise is not to become a pinup
guy or girl, but to get healthy or maintain existing health. Set realistic
goals and acknowledge what you can and cannot do.
* Choose an enjoyable program: Choose an exercise program you know
you will enjoy. An enjoyable program will encourage participation and
increase the likelihood that you'll stick with it. Whether it's a daily walk
with friendsor a structured workout at the local gym with a trainer, the
program you choose should be one you look forward to, -a-fini-t one you
see as a necessary evil.
* Take it easy: Whenever.a new program is started, be it by a teenager,
professional athlete or senior citizen, the temptation to overdo it is:
omnipresent. However, flying out of the gates is a great way to get hurt,
particularly if you do not yet know your physical limitations. Take it slow
as youibegin'a. vorkotita.id'nmakeaa 'diily journal of wli''at youdat the
beginning. That way, should you encounter any aches or pains, you can
always look at the journal or share it with your physician or trainer to
determine what might be the root of the problem. As you grow
accustomed to physical activity, you can then make adjustments to your
routine accordingly.
* Do your homework on facilities: You may, especially if you are retired,
prefer to workout during the mid-morning hours when kids are in school
and working professionals are at the office. That can make choosing a gym
easier for you than it is for students or professionals.
However, when looking for the right facility, do your homework and find a
gym that has all that you want. Some gyms, for example, heavily
emphasize weight training, and don't offer other amenities such as
racquetball courts or a swimming pool. Find a gym that best fits your
needs. Many gyms offer free passes for up to a week so prospective
customers can get a better grasp of
what the gym has to offer. Take '
advantage of this common practice
when choosing a facility.
* Make stretching a regular part of
your regimen: Young or old,
stretching is an integral part of any
successful workout routine. For
seniors, however, stretching becomes
especially important,, as you are more
susceptible to:injury thah you were
in your more youthful days, .
Stretching helps prevent muscle pulls
and other injuries, and should be
done both before and after a
workout.

Chiropractic
is happy to announce the addition of the
BioMeridian Unit
This new state-ofl-he-art assessment tool is used for overall health and wellness The BioMendian Unit uses
bioeleclrical impedance measurements (BIM) to measure the electrical conductivity between specific points
on the body by creating a "circuit" and then measuring the flow of electricity between those points This type of
testing has been used for many years in the medical field. Examples would be EKG's and EEG's used to
measure hearii and brain function. There is substantial scientific information supporting BIM testing
This unit Is designed to measure 58 oiflerent electrical "circuits" in the body related to specific organs and
.systems. It uses points on the hands and feet It is non-invasive, sate and painless. Your measurements are
then compared against a database of over 1 5 million tests to identify areas of your body that have moved
away .from the norm. With that powerful information the BIM assessment software will assist Dr. Steele in
effectively formulating a comprehensive support program that includes detailed recommendations for an
optimal supplementation regimen customized to yourspecific needs. Our goals is to get you feeling well and
functioning well using chiropractic adjustments, nutritional support, and teaching you how to eat. well.
As overall wellness is becoming more and more important. Dr. Steele is working diligently to find more ways
to bring more tools into the practice to assist our patients achieve greater wellness with less cost and more
efficiency. Our goals is to coach people into wellness. We.offer Chiropractic care, Acupuncture, Massage
Therapy and nutritional evaluations.
