neighboring Tsala Apopka
Chain of Lakes were substan-

the 1960s and 1970s, and docu-

Knetsch told the Citrus
County Tsala Apopka Chain of
Lakes Task Force on Monday
that the river bottom was
mined for pebble phosphate at
21 locations during one period
in its history In the Dunnellon
area, cast-off phosphate mate-
rials from the mines was
stacked in piles in the lake
chain, blocking water flow.
The task force was recently
assembled as part of the
Citrus/Hernando Waterways
Restoration Council. Citrus
and Hernando each have a
separate task force to address
their respective water issues.

Those who look for entertainment on a
stage rather than a stock car speedway
don't need to spin their wheels. This week-
end's events offer plenty of checkered-
flag-free fun.
M Well-known local singers and new-
comers will take the stage today for The
Grand 'Ole Opry, Citrus County Style at
Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto.
The music will range from current coun-
try hits to classic country and gospel. The
lineup includes Jesse Watson, Judy
Dotson, Jim and Sheila Harpin and Jimmy
Brown.
Rick "Big Red" Brooks, a deejay for K-
Country 93.7 FM radio station, will serve
as emcee.
The concert is a fund-raiser for
Homosassa Elementary School. All the
performers, about 15 in all, as well as
backstage crewmembers donate their time
to put on the show.
Concert starts at 7 p.m. Box office opens
at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 each.
Look for live jazz, Dixieland-style at
the Citrus Jazz Society's jam session at
1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hampton Room of
Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club.
Admission is $5 for non-members. The
clubhouse is at 505 E. Hartford St.,
Hernando. For more information, call 795-
8983.
The West Citrus Elks will host their
monthly jam session on Sunday at the
lodge. About a dozen musicians will sam-
ple a variety of music, from blues, jazz and
swing to country.
The lodge has a dance floor and refresh-
ments will be for sale.
Music starts at 1:30 p.m. Admission
donation of $3 goes to Elk charities. The
lodge is at 7890 W Grover Cleveland Blvd.,
Homosassa.
N This is the last weekend to catch
"Same Time, Next Year" on stage at
Playhouse 19 in Crystal River.
The comedy follows a man and woman
who meet once a year at a romantic inn for
adultery and conversation.
Show times are 8 p.m. today and 2 p.m.
Sunday. Tickets are $15 each for adults
and $10 for students. The theater is at 865
