Chipley gets $412,000 state grant Governor Jeb Bush recently awarded the City of Chipley a Rural Infrastructure Fund Grant of $412,000 to help retain nearly 400 jobs and create 56 new jobs. The grant will be used for infrastructure and wastewa- ter upgrades at the Highway 77 and 1-10 interchange lift station. Supporting the retention and expansion of several busi- nesses, the upgrades will also facilitate more than $5.6 million in new capital improvements in rural Washington County. "I am pleased the State can once again support Chipley in its ongoing economic development efforts through this rural infra- structure grant," said Governor Bush. "Through this strategic fund, Chipley will make impor. tant infrastructure improvements. enabling job retention and future economic growth." "These funds will provide the wastewater improvements neces sary to retain hundreds of jobs in Chipley and create more than 55 additional ones. This area has seen tremendous economic gains in the past few years, and these improvements will support our current and future growth." Since taking office in 1999, Governor Bush has focused on putting rural Florida on a more competitive footing with the rest of the state. Among many rural- based initiatives, the Governor created the "Rural Areas of Criti cal Economic Concern," which provides rural areas w ith priority access to the state's economic and tourism development incen- tive programs.
