OBJECTSs ...The objects of the Association shall be to unite the architectural pro-
fession within the state of Florida to promote and forward the objects of The Ameri-
can Institute of Architects; to stimulate and enoonrage contimal improvement with-
in the profession, cooperate with other professions, promote and participate in the
matters of general public welfare, and represent and act for the architectural pro-
fesaion in the State; and to promote educational and public relation programs for
the advanement of the profession.

HB-255 KILLED IN SENATE COMMITTEE

Your secretary has been advised by Senator Shands, member of the Senate Educa-
tion Committee, that HB-255, allowing registration without examination to graduates
of Florida architectural schools, was killed in committee.

In order to get this news to the architects with the least delay, we are using
the mimeographed form of bulletin for this .issue.

The response of the architects over the state to the appeal for help from your
Legislative Comittee has been very gratifying since at least one ~mber of the
legislature ocoianted that be had never seen such opposition to a bill build up
between Friday of one week and Tuesday of the following week. It Just goes to
prove what a grcup of men can do when they are motivated by principles which they
believe to be just and right and in the public interest

There is one angle to it, however, which none of us can afford to forget.
This bill was introduced and had passed the House by a big majority before
any concerted action could be directed against it. There will be other legis-
latures and other bills.

NOTICE OF EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING...The next meeting of the Executivo Board of
the Association will be held in the office of Robert M. Little, 605 Lincoln
Road, Miami Beach, Saturday, May 31, at two o'clock.

PRESIDENT'S CONFERENCE ON FIRE PREVENTION...The Florida Association of
Architects was represented in Washington by President Bunch, who had received
the President's invitation to attend the Conference on Fire Prevention.

NEW OFFICERS, FLORIDA CENTRAL CHAPTER...At the annual meeting of the Florida
Central Chapter AIA held in Tampa, March 15, the following officers were

FLORIDA N1ORTH CHAPTER BARBECUE...The April meeting of the Florida North Chapter
was held in Goineaville starting off with a barbecue in the late afternoon,
followed by a business meeting, after which members were invited to review an
exhibit of work by architects from the Orlando area and the work of students in
the School of Architecture.

This meeting was held in Gainesville with the idea that it might in some
way take the place of the semi-annual Aso"ciation meeting which was farerly
held here in the spring of the year. There is great need for more contact
between the students and the architects of Florida and it is hoped that sme
means can be worked out whereby meetings in Gaineaville can be resumed.

The architects of northern Florida may have been busy in the last six months
but statistics indicate that they spend very little of their income for grooeries.
Liars can figure but figures don't lie and here are the facts. e prepared for
a minimum of eighty with what we believed to be expansion to take care of ninety
if need be. Seventy-two attended and frankly had I not swiped a couple of pieces
of pork before the meeting, Mama (that's what your secretary calls the secre-
tary's secretary) would not have had taste one of barbecue. Boy, can they eatt

The last three weeks of long winded telegreas, long distance calls (ergecy
if you please), trips to Tallahassee, and urgent appeals to the Amebers (450 at a
crack) frankly have us Just a little punch-drunk and we, therefore, ask your
indulgence in this informal presentation of current affairs in the Florida
Association.
