Data File Variables , explained in order of the column headings. boxid : A unique number identifying each nest box placed in the study. nest i d : A unique number id entifying each active nest used in the study. clutch : Either 1 or 2 identifying whether we believed a nest attempt to be a first or second attempt of the season. day : A unique number identifying the day of the year (2019) that a given nest attempt was in ducted into the study and its period of obse rvation began . noise : This indicates whether the average measured level of background noise (mostly traffic) fell below 70 decibels (A weighted: Low) or above 70 dBA. playback : This variable indicates whether a nest received none (No) or 1 or ore days of playback of c onstruction noise (Yes) . days_PB: This indicates how many days of playback a nest received. HS_angular: This number represents the arcsin(square root) transformed ratio of chicks hatched to eggs laid in each nest. This transformation is referred to as the angular transformation. m(fluct uat ions): This reports the mean number of fluctuations (< 2 degree Centigrade drops in temperature) per 8 hour day of observation for each nest observed using iButton sensors in the nest cups. m(bouts): This represents the mean number of incubation bouts per 8 hour day of observation for each nest observed using iButton sensors in the nest cups. m(warm_mins): This represents the mean total number of minutes per day that a nest temperature was increasing (owing to female incubation) per 8 hour day of observation for each nest observed using iButton sensors in the nest cups. m(bout_lngth): This represents the mean number of minutes per bout (rise and fall of temperature) per 8 hour day of observation for each nest observed using iButton sensors in the nest cups.
