- This letter to Smathers from a concerned constituent is representative of the feelings among many Anglos in Miami who were concerned by the influx of Cuban refugees. The constituent worries about the presence of Cubans bringing down property taxes, and claims that many don't like to shop downtown anymore because there are "so many Cubans here now that it seems like a foreign country to real Americans like us." - Esta carta a Smathers de un constituyente preocupado es representativa de los sentimientos de muchos anglos en Miami que estaban preocupados por la afluencia de refugiados cubanos. El constituyente se preocupa por la presencia de los cubanos bajando sus impuestos a la propiedad, y afirma que a muchos no les gusta ir de compras al centro porque hay "tantos cubanos aquí ahora que parece un país extranjero para americanos reales como nosotros".
